Warlords released.

I'm sure it will have the latest updates.

I'll be holding off on getting this till the holidays--gotta survive finals first. :( And it seems like I bought CivIV yesterday, not 4 months ago. Thanks for the speedy release, Aspyr!

I have it from a usually reliable source that it's 2.00.

Thanks for reminding me...

Any word on tech requirements? The link in the announcement didn't say. I have a MacBook 1.83, 1G RAM, which I know Aspyr doesn't support but I haven't had any trouble thus far. But I don't want to ask for Warlords for Xmas only to find that it won't run.

I doubt if the tech requirements are any different from Civ4. It's the same basic software engine, just some different logic, modified AI rules, new civs and units .... The computer doesn't care what pictures it's displaying, just how many vertices, textures and shaders it needs to put them on your screen, and that won't change much.

Any suggestion yet that they are releasing a patch for vanilla?

There was a suggestion that the Warlords development revealed certain improvements to the code base that might improve vanilla. Things like reducing the kernel panics and crashes would help.

Time sure flies ... I haven't played Civ IV in months due to RL obligations, so odds are, I'll wait until early next year before buying Warlords.

*sigh* I really need to finish a years-long writing project. I love it, but it's been taking up time I'd be using otherwise on Civ IV and other, uh, distractions. :D

I just saw the ETS to be set on the 24th from the shops yo us..
Is that somewhere specific? Someone has reported receiving it from Amazon in the US already.

I just got mine. I pre-ordered from Amazon and it arrived a few hours ago. Haven't tried it yet, I'm still at work for another 5 hours or so. :(

Does anyone know if the SDK is now available for the Mac with this new Warlords release? Maybe someone who's lucky enough to have this new release installed could take a look? On the PC there's a dir named CvGameCoreDLL under the installation dir that contains the SDK...

I don't believe the SDK is included, but I might be wrong.

You guys might be interested to know that AoE III just went gold, and should be shipping soon. Mac-PC support will be added in a later patch! And it actually has *less* requirements than Civ IV--only 1.4 ghz G4 required. Hmm...AoE III or Warlords? How rare it is that mac users have *choices* when it comes to strategy games!

I can confidently predict that it isn't. There may well be a file called CivGameCoreDLL.dll, but if so, it's only there to provide a CRC check, to fool the game software into believing it's on a Wndows PC.

So I played it for a couple hours last night. I didn't encounter any bugs (Ran through about 500B.C.). Sounds all work, no crashes taking cities. I was playing on a Mac Pro (2.66 stock except for an extra gb of ram). I also put it on a MacBook Pro (2.16 15 inch Core Duo with the 256mb video card) and ran it for about 3 turns to see if the sounds worked. No problems on either. Seems like Aspyr did a much better job than on Civ IV vanilla!

I've played Warlords for a few hours with no problems, but when I use the in-game update function to get the 2.08 patch, it downloads a .exe file into the patch folder then quits. I can't do anything with the file outside of the game, and inside, the update function doesn't seem to notice it has been downloaded and just starts again.

Anyone else having trouble patching Warlords?

Hi, AppleOnly. Welcome :wavey:

There won't be a patch until Aspyr produces a Mac one. If they'd had the version 2.08 code ready they'd have shipped that version, since it was released only this week. The in-game update option runs left-over code from the Windows version, and downloads a Windows patch, which is of zero use to you.

it's not very clever of them to have left the link to the Windows patching service in there. Apart from anything else, it just rubs Mac players' noses in the fact that we're a patch behind.

I'll raise a ticket at Aspyr in case they haven't worked it out themselves already.
