Hey guys,
I played the Viking scenario for a little bit last night, and I had a couple questions. First, it seems that the amount of gold you get paid for ransoming a city is on the low side of things. I have ransomed cities back to their original owner for 200, 400, 800 or 1000 gold. I have never seen any amount above these. At these prices it seems nearly impossible to attain the victory condition of 50,000 gold. Has anyone been able to do this, and how did you achieve victory?
In my game, I was simply raiding the cities and then ransoming them back. I had ransomed every city on the Eastern English coast, as well as a few cities in Western Europe, two in southern Ireland, and one in northern Ireland. I think this may be the incorrect strategy.
I plan on trying again. This time, I think I will try to set up a series of bases. For example, perhaps I will set one up in Eastern England, Southern England and Northern Ireland. Then, after I have stabilized these bases I could strat researching the Treasure locations and dispatching my berserkers to hunt them down. I was afraid to try this strategy from the outset as I was concerned with maintenance costs, but I think it might be the only way to go.
Any suggestions?
