Was there a beta test?

Has there been a secret beta test, or might there be a beta test in the future?

If they're 6 months+ away from relase, I'm guessing they're a long way from a beta.

they have been working on the game for two+ years, the game is currently in late alpha, i guess. single player games don't generaly have public betas, but who knows?

personaly, i doubt they will have one

Civ4 had a beta. Lots of the latest 4x games have had betas also. Galciv2/HOMM5/Elemental:war of magic and it's a good bet 'those in the know' have or will be beta testing Civ5. They probably can't talk about it yet though!

It's pre alpha. if it hasnt had an alpha test yet, there's no way it's beta yet.

It was pretty secret last time though wasn't it? If I remember they weren't allowed to talk about it at first.

There's bound to be a couple of people in the community doing big things (See: Jon Shafer who posts here and at apolyton, And I suspect Sirian's in on this shindig too) but they wont be beta testing yet, and they'll be going major under the hood stuff.

They'll also be bound under non disclosure agreements until such a time that the information becomes public (i.e. release day)

Yeah I'd say Jon is probably involved.

1) i was using Jon as an example (since he's ya know confirmed to be both a part of the community and on the team). 2) He is bound to have recruited one or two people from the civ community to get onboard (and if not, he (or his underlings) will for the actual Beta game).
