wat is ur fav unit on civ4

Best unit is beyond discussion the "redcoat"

Its just terrible unbalanced.

its the unique unit for englan empires and they get it instead the rifleman.

redcoats have 2 more power, wich is cool but they also have 25% against mounted units (as the riffleman) and 25% against gunpowder units.

Basically they have 25% more against everything they should fight against.

but what really makes redcoat great is that they are NOT riffleman so grenadiers dont get the 50% bonus for attacking them, there isnt anything of the same technology level that have any chance against that unit, even if upgraded (for example, a riffleman needs combat III for having something near of redcoat power and combat IV for having more than a 0 experience redcoat).

anyway i think my favorite unit is chu-ko-nu. chinesse special unit, its a very versatile unit having 1 or 2 attacks of initiative and colateral damage (wich makes them being usefull even against adavanced technology as kamikaze units) but not as unbalanced as the redcoat.

Either the Sworsman (they're the most powerfull unit of their era and they're very good at attacking citys) or the modern armour (they're the most powerful units in the game that actually work, ICBMs don't in my opinoin).

I seem quite fond of the spearman.

In my games, it is him who saves my cities >.>

Praetorian. I love upgrading them to CRII, then smashing my way through Archers and Longbows while laughing maniacally. I have glorified Caesar in my conquests.

yay!

Non-UU, has to be the axes of evil.

UU's I like war chariots (because they gave me my only conquest win to date), redcoats (obviously), Immortals (although can suffer from expand too fast syndrome).

But easily the best unit is the 'humble' Quechua. Marathon speed and with granaries that provide +2 culture, Incans are stupidly overpowered when the AI starts with archery and never builds warriors :crazyeye:

Berserkers. Strike quickly at isolated cities, don't expose damaged units to counterattack, and quickly recall offensive units to your territory in case of counter-invasion. Plus they retain amphibious when you upgrade to riflemen and infantry, allowing you to continue your surprise invasions for centuries.

Exactly. Everything this guys just said. The Praet is whats up. Hail Caesar.

Non UU would be the bomber. Always the turning point in my wars. More so than tank for me.

I'm surprised that swordsmen are mentioned here. They have a hard time if there are axemen defending a city.

My favorite is by far the marines. ;) :D :D

Impis! Most powerful and useful unit in the game, plus they look totally fricking cool!

i don't know if i have one favorite, but impis are very high on the list. they have the best dance without a doubt! i love those guys, but i hardly ever play as shaka.

Spearmen and Pikemen, as the AI nearly always fights you with mounted units, but they do suck against non mounted without promotions, I like to stack them with macemen or crossbowmen.

Oops I forgot Praets, I never use them anymore because it feels too much like cheating. I also forgot my all time favorite, Immortals!

Praets; Cossaks; and CATS. This is my opinion.

Preats + Cats = conquest victory
