On mars already, waiting!
Something I'm working on for my scenario, I may update it soon depending on how it looks in the final scenario.

For european scenarios theres no real need for jungles, but there are several large areas of swap or wetland, especialy east of the ural mountains. So just replace jungle with swamp.

Its prety easy to use these graphics if you are using play the world; Just create a folder in the scenarios folder of PTW called (whatever your scenario is called) and place another folder in that called art, and another called terrain within the art folder and place this file in it; Swamp

Heres a little preview of it on the standard civ III terrain;

Finally! I have been waiting for a decent swamp terrain, this goes right into the MEM.:worshp:

Yeah, I'm not sure about how to make it better. I've got satelite views of wetlands from space and even up close they either look black or the same green as the surrounding terrain.

I figured I'd just make it similar to the rivers (rivers also don't look blue from the air, it is after all a game).

For example here is the caspian sea and the Volga (upon wich lies, volgograd, the city which was once Stalingrad). As you can see, the water is black except where it is shallow, and even then it is green.

I'd like to make all the terrain more realistic, but I don't think that would actualy be possible, so I think its best to go with the slightly cartoonish look.

Although I can make a version that has brown (muddy) waters, this actualy looks quite good.

Heres what it might look like;

Womok´s basic terrain(grassland, plains, desert, tundra and water) is based on photos of the earth.

Brown swamp terrain

O.K. I t only took a few moments, but I think this works quite well.
You now have a choice between brown swamps or blue wetlands. I think for my scenario I'm going to use the brown swamps, as that will best represent what I want them to be, areas that are impassable to tanks and heavy artillery, they will make natural fortresses for partisan activity and a good player will be able to get a great tactical advantage out of them once thay know how.

Heres a preview from the map editor;

The problem with trying to make the terrain like satelite views is the way that one terrain type switches suddenly to another at the edge of the map square.

In real life, Terrain changes happen over the spread of hundreds of miles, slowly morphing from one type to another. You don't realy notice it with the original or snoopy graphics because of the cartoony style, but with womoks terrain it becomes quite obvious.

I found a problem with the brown swamp (and I suppose this is valid for the blue one too); hills and mountains in the swamp/jungle looks really strange.

The brown swamp looks way better than the river one.
Can you complete it so that the mountains and other jungle terrain fit?
This only seems like a small terrain modification, but for as long as i've been on this forum, it has been a request that has come and go many times.

What sort of scenario are you making? I seen a post were you had really cool loooking mini units, is this the same scenario?
I'm not so fussed on your dark satellite terrian. In the game your not looking from a satellite point of view.
I like what you have done with the grass and desert, but the ocean as black does,nt work.

Personally, I hate snoppys cartoonish look. Womok´s is the best i've seen for realism.

The satelite image is realy just that; I've not comverted in to terrain or anything.

The scenario I'm making is a 20th century one. The Munit scenario is on hold cos I couldn't get enough time.

Nice work! :)
