Wetland/swamp terrain graphics

The resource we really need for the swamp is Cloudberry, which adds commerce +2.

One of the most expensive berries (if not the most expensive berry) in the world ~10€/1kg (and it's delicious too) :).

something like this?

How does this look?

Is the problem just in the colours or is the whole design too cartoonish? I darkened it a bit and updated the preview picture in the above post. Any better?

Ok, that's as much effort I'm going to put into this one. To me it looks ok - I tried shading, but it's hard to shade something that by its nature sticks close to the ground - cloudberries are well known as difficult berries to pick as they grow close to the ground and are often covered with undergrowth. If someone sees potential in this one and knows how to improve it, please feel free to do so.

I'm sure someone can make a better cloudberry resource, this is just my shot at it and to be honest, I'm quite happy with it. To me it looks enough like a cloudberry and the style seems ok as the original resources are hardly photorealistic either. Preview of the final version can be found in an above post.

Made these in wednesday, then got too sleepy to make and send the preview. I like Drift's cloudberry ok but I'll send them now because they are there. Which one you like or do you like them at all? I like number 1.

I knew someone would make a better one! :D

I'd say it's either 1. or 2. The ones without green leaves don't just feel right, but out of those two, there's no way you can choose badly. :goodjob:

(If you were twisting my arm and I'd have to choose, I guess I'd pick number 2. - a bit more detail and a bit more at home with the other resources)

The preview quality was 75%, if better mwsnap makes huge jpg files which will stay big even if converted to gif.

I checked them in the editor again, and I think number 1 is the best, 2 being ok but a little dirty looking. 3 is not bad, looks all fresh and nice but I think 1 stands out better. This at least in my monitor. After listening your opinions, careful consideration and scientific research work by myself I call it a draw and will send number 1 and 2. :scan:

The package includes civped entry from wikipedia and pics.

I ended up using the number 1. after all. Looks great. Small civilopedia icon however has a 'faded' (as in "liukuvärjätty") background while other resources use solid backgrounds. Thought you should know. :)

(I attached an example so that also the non-finnish people get the point as I'm not sure if 'faded' is the correct word here. Original is on the left)

Edit: Added Swamp pediafiles and a pediafile for Drain Swamp worker action

If anyone is interested, here's a set of worker job buttons & pediafiles I made. Fell in love with swamps and needed an appropriate worker job and pediafiles for them. Worker job button is supposed to represent draining a swamp and naturally it replaces the clear jungle worker job.

Had some trouble figuring out how to make the automated draining button stand out from the normal one. Hope it's clear enough.

Regular Civ3 - untested but I don't know why it wouldn't work.

You need to copy the contents of the package into Art\Terrain\interface. Use Scenario subfolder or remember to backup. You also need to edit a few entries in Labels.txt to change the text in the small boxes you get when you place the cursor over the button. Shouldn't be hard to find, it's near the bottom of the file.

PTW & Vanilla Civ3

These go to Art\Civilopedia\Icons\Terrain\

I also recommend changing Worker animations so that Jungle clearing uses Irrigation animations. There shouldn't be any room for misunderstandings since you can't irrigate swamps (at least you shouldn't since they are quite moist already). Looks much better than a worker swinging his machete in the middle of a swamp.
