WH-02 The Great Game-Warhorses Jump the Fence

I took a look at the game, and I can only see one viable spot for the settler. We lack map knowledge in order to settler east of Gondar. Unless somebody can propose a better site, this is where I will go for when I play tomorrow night.

Lots of food and some commercial potential - can't seem to go wrong there, can we?

If anyplace makes sense as a GP farm I think this is the one with all those deer camps.

agreed, that is the same as the previous red spot that was proposed. the warrior has been moved down there to help with MP duty in the new city.

Any opinions on where to aim our Espionage budget?
Think we wait until after Lee's set to see where SMERSH is holing up.

agreed. Are we going to run scientists or merchants? IIRC, we're going caste at some point.

BTW, normal barbs? Other than the hapless bruins (pun intended for NCAAF fans), anyone seen a barb?

2000 BC
I see nothing to change.

1880 BC
We already lost the race for the Great Wall. :(
It seems like this wonder goes really early in BTS. Two forests chopped for no gain. :(

1840 BC
Gondar works on a warrior to get another exploring unit out there.

1820 BC
(IT) The next research project is pottery.

1680 BC
Lalibela is formed at red dot.

1640 BC
The Oracle has already been built. I don't think I have *ever* seen it fall this early before.
We only needed 3 more turns.

=======================

New Updates

Not much to say. This round just plain sucked with the wonder failures.

I am not sure where to build the city, but we should consider another settler soon.

send the 1840 warrior east?

beeline to iron and pray? does the no brokering thingy also apply to the AI?

Ouch!

Darn Frenchmen with quarries!

And no tech brokering applies equally to all.

potential city spot

green is in the same place on both screenies.

I like the cow spot better, but I don't think we can move fast enough to get there.

Three cities with some powerful growth potential. Let's push it to the max and make for Code of Laws.

But no copper and no sight of iron yet does make me a little nervous.

Got it for tomorrow.

But no copper and no sight of iron yet does make me a little nervous.
me too. thus the last archer.

The burn towards alpha was to trade it for iron and math. We can still do that right? We just can't sell what we acquire? zero experience with no brokering...

All the barb archers made me nervous. Feel better when we have a road network up.

In an ideal world, I'd like more workers...

BTW, IIRC theres a warrior moving south towards Justinian to fog bust.

imho, we should still go for the cow spot 1st rather than green. with the granery done soon in Aksum, we should be able to build one fairly quickly.

Since we're sans iron and copper, we need to research or trade for AH. Surely, there has to be at least horses around.

We won't know about the iron until we research Iron Working, we are still working on Alphabet.

And I agree about the cow spot.

I will be without access to a civplayable PC over the weekend. Since it is likely that my set comes up then I'll need to ask for a swap or skip.

Is that feasible?

trade for AH
I'd argue against it. That tech is too cheap to trade for and it would go against our WFYABTA limit.

Going back and looking at my screenies, there's a tile that pulls in both the rice and cows post expansion as well as 3 or 4 hills...

"We fear you are becoming to advanced" and thus don't want to trade techs with you. Less of problem in this game with the no brokering

Here is where we stand relative to the neighbors

And here is how the wonders fell out

Civ4ScreenShot0000.jpg

And judging from what else I saw Ramses must have taken Hereditary Rule for his Oracle knowledge as he switched on the interturn.

Accordingly I adjusted the espionage allocation to put 100% against Ramses. We can already see what Justinian is doing but are about 10 turns from scoping out Ramses research path.

The warrior in the south east encountered the Byzantine border so I requested open borders and sent him to gather intelligence.

Civ4ScreenShot0011.jpg

And when the settler produced in Aksum reached the edge of Egyptian territory I turned him around, then opened borders with Ramses and sent his escorting archer north. Ramses immediately took advantage of the open borders and sent a Jewish missionary south to Aksum

Civ4ScreenShot0004-1.jpg

so I am glad I turned the settler around as even with our culture production I don't really feel like a cultural battle with a Holy City yet. The Jewish HC must be just to the north of the border that the archer crossed on his next turn.

There is another Egyptian missionary, Hindu this time, in bound to Aksum.

Addis Ababa went down on the very last turn

I managed to make a complete hosing of the happiness at Gondor so we nbow have to deal with an unhappy city that either grows too fast for its own good, or starves a little.

Whipped a library in Aksum and put two scientists to work, and the same at Gondor - which was the source of the unhappiness as the town grew faster than I could shut them down. I got caught up in looking at the Egyptian borders and trying to figure out where to send the settler.

And got some cottages built at Aksum and Gondor. I am almost of half a mind not to put granaries up until we get the health resources for them. Those deer camps sure can drive growth even without them.

Aksum is working some kind of filler project right now and if we wanted to slow down the GS generation could go back to training a settler for the green dot that AK has limned for us. We do risk losing that to the Chinese. That does seem to be the best choice out there. I failed to realize the speed of cultural expansion we will get with Steles and the Creative trait so I completely missed the reach of the city site at green dot. In any case it should be next.

Research is spanking right along with about 4 turns to go on Alphabet. We need to make an assessment at that time whether it is worth it to burn the midnight oil to acquire Code of Laws. I think what matters is if we can trade for Iron Working and whether we hold iron.

build a worker or settler somewhere in there. I had that problem too. whipped archer, see above.

think we do the trade then run settler to metal if it is anywhere close.

If we get lucky with iron, maybe we should start planning the Justinian Campaign?

BTW, getting sick of venison looking forward to beef...
