WH-02 The Great Game-Warhorses Jump the Fence

Preflight check: Bede stated that he put 100% espionage vs Ramsesses, but I don't see that now.
Change Askum from temple to settler. I think we could due with 1 more. Due in 7T.

IBT: A collaspe of a marriage between Egypt and America has driven up tensions. Someone got a GProphet

Turn 1: 850 BC Gondors a bit overdeveloped for it's pop, while the new city (Addis Ababa) needs work so I start running a worker up there.

IBT: Hinduism has spread to Addis Ababa via a Ramesses missionary. I don't revolt yet.
Kashi Vishwanath has been built somewhere
Ramesses has completed The Temple of Artemis in Memphis

Turn 2: 825 BC not much

Turn 3: 800 BC ditto, 1T till Alph. AA's borders have expanded. A warrior is in a forward position for the new town.

IBT: Alpha comes in, and Justinian already wants to swap writing for AH. I hold off for now.
Lalibela granery -> Library

Turn 4: 775 BC
Tech trading screen shown below:
Civ4ScreenShot0003.jpg

Cannot get IW from anyone.
Sell Hanibal Priesthood for Fishing
Sell Justinina Writing for AH

Horses are located directly under Aksum.

Ramesses won't sell IW for Med + Writing

I can get Sailing for Writing & Med from Hannibal, but hold off one turn to see if Washington can give us a better deal.

Research going for CoL as we have horses.

Turn 5: 750 BC Hannibal will no longer sell Sailing, so he's closer to Writing now than he wants.

IBT Aksum settler -> Jewish Monastery

Turn 6: 725 BC Settler heads out. French and Chinese are encroaching on the proposed spot, so it will have to move 1T W.

Hannibal has finished Writing.

IBT: Slave revolt in Aksum. Choose the middle option, losing 10g, getting 1T of revolt, and -1 pop
Civ4ScreenShot0005.jpg

Turn 7: 700 BC Settler moving.

IBT: Hannibal offers IW for Alpha, I refuse

Turn 8: 675 BC Washington has stretched himself and settled near our spot. I'm going to settle anyways as our culture is pretty close to Ramesses, so it should be higher than the Americans. We may want to consider a rax + a few Chariots and just raze it.
Turn down research to 70% as it's unsustainable right now.

Turn 9: 650 BC Decide to settler 2T S of the rice.

Everyone except us and the Americans have IW, but we still cannot buy it unless we get rid of Alpha, which I'm not willing to do atm.

IBT: Gondar worker -> Chariot
Washington Converts to Judaism

Turn 10: 625 BC I hold off on founding the city, instead taking a screenie of the location. Team can decide if they want it and the next player can settle.
MM Gondar for growth. When it grows, the next player may want to re-add the second scientist.

Current trading screen. IW only available for Alpha atm.

 Why are we using up the tech trading cap on such cheap techs?

With no chance to trade for IW, we needed the horse resource. 2 civs already had writing, so I thought it was prudent to trade before it became worthless.

That still doesn't explain the fishing trade. I don't think I have every taken a first row tech in trade.

Looking at the roster from a recent post by Bede it looks like I am up. I will play shortly.

AK - on deck
Bede -
Dot -
Grahamiam - played
LKendter - up

625 BC
I would have preferred another unique happy resource, but I do settle on the current settler spot.
(IT) The pyramids have been built. That seems early for that wonder.

550 BC
I open border with De Gaulle.
(IT) Hannibal demands Alphabet. I hate to take the diplomatic penalty, but I feel I must say no.

500 BC
(IT) Hannibal now wants open border. :crazyeye:

475 BC
(IT) Qin gets Mysticism from his demand. That tech is so cheap I refuse to take a diplomatic penalty over it.

425 BC
(IT) De Gaulle demands, and gets writing.

400 BC
I open borders with Washington.
(IT) Code of laws completes. We are the first one there, and found Confucianism in Lalibela.
I set research to iron working as a place holder.

=======================

New Updates

I think iron working is the next key tech. We need to find out if we have any metal. That will make a big impact on where we go from here.

I started one courthouse, and I suggest we try to get courts in all of our cities to improve the economy.

Turn
100 - Yeha looks like it is growing fast enough for now without a granary. Change it to a library. Whip the CH in Gondar.
101 - Gondar starts a chariot. Addis starts a CH
102 - exploring
103 - Marie Curie appears. She offers to teach our youth maths, but they are disinterested; it seems "Even Qin knows math"
104 - Marie travels to Askum and founds an academy to foster interest in science amongst our youth.
105 - IW finishes. Start monarchy for the happy gas benefit. Addis starts a rax.
106 - Ramses comes calling with monarchy in tow. Since we already have 72 beakers into monarchy and he wants CoL in return, I politely decline. Askum starts a rax.
107 - exploring
108 - ditto
109 - hook up our iron. What, I failed to mention we had some? :crazyeye: Too bad, so sad for us, lots of the AI have iron too.
110 - Igor travels to Lalibela, entertains the scullery maids and there is pop growth that I miss. I ponder how to clean up the little angry red face, then realize that Bede is up and he can take care of it much better than I.

Mentally debating a CH in Askum (for the spy). Rax'ed up in preparation for what comes next (whatever that is). IIRC almost all of my whipping unhappiness should be gone in 2-3 turns. In retrospect, should I have taken that monarchy deal (i forgot about the no brokering  ) Take a look around the map and gaze at all the iron. Not sure how we want to prioritize the target for the first war.

AK - played 9/23
Bede - up, will he play 9/23 or is it monk's night out?
Dot - on a different clock than the rest of us IIRC
Grahamiam - played 9/23
LKendter - played 9/23

Due to the unexpected resurgence of an ancient malady I will need to take an indefinite skip until I can get this all sorted out.

Sorry to leave you all in the lurch like this.

hope all is well, Bede

AK - played 9/23
Dot -> UP
Grahamiam - played 9/23
LKendter - played 9/23

Bede - on the sidelines

I guess we can state we have an open slot. Any takers?

I've seen the save but haven't got it yet.

I hope everything goes farely well, Bede. All the best!

Sorry Gentlemen. I thought that I could play this tonite but I can't. So if you're willing to allow me another 24 that'd be OK. I don't mind swapping with Grahamiam either, if you feel like it! If so, just grab it and I'll play after you.

And I agree, that we have a free slot. We need another player, imho.

Bugger.

Yesterday I had some elevated temperature, a sore throat and some breathing trouble. Today Those got joined by a headache and a slight fever.

I'm sorry, but I have to ask for a skip,
