What’s coming in Civ?

The usual one year cycle of releasing expansions seems to have stopped after GS.

By now, a new expansion (if any) would be released or at least close to release (14th Feb.)

Is Firaxis doing a final expansion, the mother of all finishes? I suspect we’ll get something this year, OR will we get Civ 7 next year?

I’ve stopped playing Civ for a while now and am (as we all are) eagerly awaiting a third expansion.

This would be cutting it really close. Civ4 came out in 2005, Civ5 in 2010, and civ6 in 2016. Civ 6 hasn't even been out 3.5 years - even if they started working on civ7 the day civ6 launched that wouldn't be nearly enough time to push out a full fledged, AAA title from scratch unless they were heavily reusing civ6 under the hood parts. There's also an industry trend to support AAA titles with increasing dlc/monetization which can extend the service life of a title - and thus avoid having to pay that massive "development of a new game" cost frequently.
Something is going on, because there's been about 5 months of silence, and they haven't done the traditional "we are done patching the game, here's the DLL" they usually do. Like if you are done, there is zero reason to hold out on saying so. It only generates Ill will. It really depends on if FXS' market intel suggests the playerbase would buy more content in sufficient numbers or not.

They just charged AAA prices for Civ VI with the mediocre AI and dumbed down graphics calling Civ VI as it stands AA would be being generous.

We have an entire thread here dedicated to speculation on this very topic.

The short version is:
We don't know.

The slightly longer version is:
Last fall they said "we're not done yet".
We have been expecting a patch, and/or announcement since November.
For both previous expansions there was roughly a 3-month marketing build up that began in late November.
For a large variety of reasons (explained in that thread) many of us still have reason to believe that there is new Civ 6 content coming "Soon"(TM), but the form in which it is coming (and when) is very up in the air at the moment.

There was a survey they did last year that asked about what kinds of things players liked the most, what kinds of things they would like to see as far as new content, how they would prefer to pay for it (subscription? One off? etc) and presumably they did something with that info.

Maybe they all took the winter off and are hanging on the beach.

Waiting for what kind of a beast is Humanking game, if it's great and people love it, prob no expanssion this year, if it fails then we get it withing few months after humankind released....or they will do a checky play by releasing expanssion same time as Humankind :D
