While we're focused on the Germans, let's not forget to keep track of what the Romans are up to. One thing, they have these galleys on the west coast of the French penninsula. Anything else interesting?

Is rome still at war with germany?

They could be planning a minor naval landing of four units, which is why Longbowmen with city defense would be nice to have.

However, should they land, we will send our Chariots in the region to hold them off, until we can mount a decisive counter.

If Rome is at war with Germany, then the galleys will be heading round to attack Germany (proberly because the ice sheet blocks the northern route round the contient and the AI is too stupid to realise it's quicker on foot!)

If Rome isn't at war with Germany, my suggestion would be to see what their answer is to declarig war on Germany, if it's says "we don't like you enough" or something else then we are alright, but if it says "we are too busy right now"
then we better get ready for an invasion!

Maybe an open border with Rome would allow us to weaken the Germans ?

Actually those galleys have been there for quite some time, during the war against Rome they were the one who destroyed our fishing boats in the captured French region. When the peace treaty was signed these galleys were trapped by our cultural borders and have simply been milling around no evil plans there.

well, let them stay, we use them as target practice for some next generation ships come, so we get promotions.

That's it, they're no harm to us, so let them live, for now.

Still, knowing the Roman Galleys are there, we still need to count them in as a part of the plan for the Roman War. This also means we need to build a newer and better navy, which means there will be no Roman War before Compass is researched and caravels built. Knowing Banking and Literature would take around 15T, Building HE will take 10-15 T in Coppertown and we want Berlin Forbidden Palace as well. Then I would say we plan the war like this.

Battle of Berlin 1300
Battle of Cologne 1400
Civic Change (Mercantilism and Vassalage) Gain Compass in Peace
Make Peace with Germany (Build only markets, banks and grocers for 12 turns) New German War around 1520, nets us Stuttgart, Essen and Frankfurt (This time we ask for philosophy for peace)-This will be a short "Blitz Campaign".

New Roman War around 1560, nets us Hamburg and Antium, possibly also Ravenna. This war we sink galleys with caravels, which then explore after the naval battle. We negotiate peace for Theology and possibly another tech as well.
This war ends around 1580-1600. We initiate a closing war for Germany by 1620, and if we stand to gain a last German tech from them, we leave Dortmund, but take Tartar, if no techs are to be gained, we finish them off.
The Final Roman War, in which we should have at least caravels, ideally frigates (Chemistry), we end the war with taking Ravenna (if not taken before) and Rome, and eventual other cities.
