One complaint is that when Perpentach changes abilities I would like to be able to know what abilities the new ones are.

You can, mouse over the flag at the bottom of the screen.

The Balseraphs are interesting, but I do not think there gypsy wagons steal enough culture, nor does Loki, but they work great as spies. They do not seem anymore physically weak than any other race, and there flavor is strong.

Agreed; I would like to play the culture subversion game, but when I can only steal two cities that are way too far away from my capital with this method, and I can barely push back borders at all, it just dosn't work. As of now you pretty much have to be right next to a "barbarian" civ in order to have it work (dovellio, clan, illians, etc...) Either increase the amount of culture stolen (maybe to -3 a turn, to counteract obelisks) and/or make Wagons stack. It would also be kind of neat to see a "reverse prophet" UU that can culture bomb to remove 30 culture instead. Probably make it come with a later tech, and probably more expensive.

Playing up the culture wars aspect of the Belseraph would make them great fun.

I really dislike the Khazad myself. I used to play Harbaal's dwarves and get runes all of the time in FfH1, back when haste was the only spell (IIRC).

Is anyone voting based on how they feel when facing the AI playing any of these civs? Or is it solely on how much you don't like playing them yourselves? For me the line blurs. That would be an interesting poll...who do hate having as a neighbor. :p

This seems a bit confused since some of the civs are supposed to be developed by now and others not. It would be more interesting if you focused just on the civs that have had work done on them.

Then there is also the difference between "cool, but not for me" and "I don't think this is cool." I find the Bannor bland. It's not just that they aren't for me, I don't think they are cool. On the other hand, I've never really gotten into the Luchuip, but they are definitely cool. They add flavor to the game.

I voted based on 'cool, but not for me', I don't mean that these civs suck. Also, undeveloped civs shouldn't be opened for voting.

Sidar, Mercurians and Clan. Sidar leader is nothing but annoying bucket and basium just lacks common sense. Clan sucks because peace with barbs is quite lame and i don't like orcs.

I voted based on how well I feel the civs perform. The three I voted for are ok in terms of flavor and can sometimes be fun to play as anyway, I just don't feel they're as strong as others.
If I were going to vote based on who I don't like having as a neighbor, I'd say Hippus because they run all over destroying improvements. The rest really don't matter when played by the AI.

I don't like grigori due to ther anti-religion.

I don't like Clan of Embers because the only special thing i know about them that they have goblins instead of scouts, and that sucks. Maybe someone could tell me what special things they can do

And I don't like Elohim becauce they lower the Armaggedon Counter. I like Armaggedon.

Elohim and Sheaim will get worked soon, expect some cool looking units for them ;) but give us time, we can`t fight on too many fronts simultaneously :crazyeye: and i am sure you want them to look as good as i want them ;)

I hate the Civs with the Scorched Earth trait, because of the loss of so many wonders,
the Doviello, because of their poor science
and the Kuriotates because they can have only 4 big citys

And all Civs which want destroy the world of FFH2, because I want conquer and rule the world.:D

Amurites - They seem like they have a lot of potential but really for a Mage society their mages are kind of lame.

Balseraphs - As already stated their culture war aspect could be tweaked a bit. Also, though I guess this is kind of arbitrary, I don't really like Perpentach or Keelyn's leader characteristics.

Sheim - I like the summons, but I guess my reasoning for this one is the same as for the Amurites.

Elohim and Bannor. I refuse to name a third to the unfavorite list, ashamed as I am to have listed two already. Really, I love the game and I always have fun no matter who I play as, but I find the evil and neutral civs to be more interesting than the good ones (excepting Luchurip, of course!).

For those of you dissing Grigori: Shame! Grigori is refreshingly easy on the brain since it doesn't utilize religion, making city maintenance and tech choices more rudimentary. Its early and frequent hero generation is pure joy to play with, and it's actually possible to assemble a team of arch-mages in mp mode with Grigori. Something to think about.

For those of you dissing Kurio...I played him for the first time the other day, and in multi-player mode. If you're on a small map with four other players, the three-city limitation isn't really a liability, especially if you put an early Tower of Complacency in one them. When I founded Ashen Veil and switched to Sacrifice the Weak, you should have heard the other players dismay! "Don't tell me he gets to keep the Tower of Complacency," I heard them say as my capital city rushed to over 40 population in short order. Get creative with Kurio, and he can be a blast to play with.

We were 5 players and unless this was changed, their city limit is determined by the map size ;)

Ah, I didn't know that. As a new fan of the Kurio, that is good to know. We'll have to connect for another game soon.:)

To the OT: After giving the subject of this thread some more thought, I have a suggestion for those who are adamant in their dislike for certain civs. Try playing them at least three times and see if you can find a "killer application" that applies specifically to them. Perhaps you really like these civs and you just don't know it yet.

I think I'll take my own advice and try out Elohim. If I remember correctly from an old game, they do quite well while in crusade mode.

Elohim don't Crusade, thats the Bannor. The Elohim are pacifists (but very good at fighting defending within their territory, demons, bringing down the AC, sactifying hell terrain in rival territory, and forcing all wars in Erebus to end)

for what it's worth, I've changed my opinion since I last posted on the topic o_o

I kind of like Khazad now. Under the right conditions they can be a very powerful civ. Luchuirp are... okay. I've gained a new appreciation for the fact that there aren't any anti-golem promotions (they're kind of like recon units in that regard), but I'm still troubled by lack of city raider promotions on melee units.

Kuriotates still stink on ice, though :D
