Israel and Austria/Habsburgs.

Well, and I would certainly prefer Poland to HRE.

Iroquois and "other" (specifically Nubia).

Of course, that'd be only if I could have my cake and eat it too - I'm actually quite happy with how the list turned out. Babylonia, Maya and Byzantium I was surprised and disappointed not to see in Warlords, and Ethiopia and Khmer were certainly nice surprises and for me very welcome additions.

Now, I do cringe a bit when thinking about the term "The Native American Empire" and about having the Holy Roman Empire in alongside Germany, but I'm sure I'll learn to live with it - they're still not even half as bad as that parody of a civ called the "Viking Empire", and I still happily play as Ragnar from time to time. Sitting Bull and Charlemagne are welcome additions at any rate.

The current selection is much better than any of the suggestions made here. :)

Agreed. And Khmer, shmer -- I would also have added Vietnam.

Sioux, Iroquois and Austria. How come Israel has more votes than Austria? Nothing against them, but they weren't a very strong military power, and thats what it takes to be in Civ (unless you're the first recognized civilization).

I am extremely upset at Firaxis' continued refusal to add the following important civs: Liechtenstein, Vatican City, Barbados, Scientist in Antarctica, Disputed Territory, Sealand, the Weimar Republic, the German Confederation, the Third Reich, West Germany, East Germany, the Unholy Roman Empire, Prussia, Deutschland and the Free City of Danzig.

You forgot San Marino and Micronesia! How could you?

My votes: Poland, Austria, Israel.

I think also that we still lack few IMPORTANT German states: let's add Prussia, Bavaria, Brandenburg, Mecklenburg, Westfalen, Sachsen, Sachsen-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein, Thüringen.
Then finally there we will have enough Germans in civ4.
Also those states cover Eastern Europe - aren't they ;) ?

I pointed out the G8 because everyone else that is on it is in the game :p
Italy isn't... but I guess you probably considers Rome as representing them. Something which isn't that wrong considering the Roman influence on Italian culture.

Anyway, more seriously speaking, I thought the Iroquois choice of Civ3 was smarter than the Sioux choice of Civ2. Sioux were nomads, and after all the Civilization game is supposed to start once nomads settled down. Iroquois was good and I miss them. Furthermore, Iroquois could somehow represent Canada, even if I understand you might consider the tie between both as rather loose.

Iriqoi would have made a wonderful civ. They had one of the worlds oldest constitutional governments, a fixed territory, and built rather impressive permanent fortified cities. A much better representative IMO then the Souix.

Canada is the second largest country in the world and we are on the G8.

I'm sure that's very nice. You also invented Tim Horton's, which the American owners appreciate. And your military superpower status is unquestioned:

It is interesting that none of these 24 suggestions is completely without support.

And maybe this poll was a year late.

LOL

Well, though I cant say much about military, Brazil has a pretty unique culture, beside having being the richest European colony in America. Hey, that's my country afterall!
