What did you think of Civ when you first got it?

Well, when i first got it I couldn't play it cause my monitor was screwed.
Then, when I fixed the monitor, I played it and didn't really like it...
Then, when i got bored with my other games I would play Civ, and it would get more andmore addictive, and better

I was inspired to get civ 3 after seeing some screenshots of it at gamespot. I saw countless screenshots and read many reviews until i finally decided to get the game. The first time i played, i played a non tutorial game i remembered, " man it takes a while to find a coast to place my first city on.

I was really confused when I first started. Basically I didn't have a clue for quit awhile until I came online and learned what it was I should be doing. Then I was hooked. =)

My bro and dad have been playing civ2 and then later switched to civ3 and they would spend hours on it. I resisted trying to play the game for a few years cos i thought it looked like a stupid boring game. Then, one night in December 2002, the computer happened to be free. At about 8pm, out of boredom, i just clicked on the civ just to see what the big deal was all about... and i left the seat at 5am the next morning....

In the old days of civ1 - I heard that it was the coolest game ever. I "borrowed" a copy without the manual. I've never been so disappointed before in my life!! A black screen with 9 green and brown tiles and a blinking settler in the middle - which I could't move with my joystick!! Bah - what a load of c***. After a month I tried again - this time the setler moved when I pressed the num pad keys!! So I moved around - hey who are those friendly looking red horsemen? I'll check them out- what game lost!!

Well after spending hours and hours on figuring out how to play the game I found out that is WAS the coolest game ever made and after 10 years with civ1, civnet, civ2, civ2 gold, SMAC, civ3 and C3C it still is.

I thought the best thing about CIV3 was the resources. I've been playing since civ1 (a LOT of allnighters, with cases of coke :)). The first time I played civ3 (never read the manual) It took me half the game to figure out what the iron was for LOL. Then when oil popped up on the other side of the world, I KNEW this waas going to make the game a LOT more 'interesting'.....

I hated the game, and I play it because there is no other better strategy gameon teh market today.

It was the first game taht I encoutnered where the previous one was better than the current one...

My first thought? - "I'm lost!"
This was the first turn based game I was exposed to. I can remember sitting in from of my computer with a newly created warrior waiting for directions and me not knowing what to do. :undecide:
Right now, I feel like that trying to get the hang of the scenarios!

I wish I had a screenshot of my first "Empire".. I think I had 1 city and a huge network of roads with no reason behind them at all. lol

I used to see guys playing the original civ back in college, but I never paid it much attention until I got a roomate who played. Then I became a true civ fanatic until I came to the realization that, at some point, I was going to have to do some studying if I expected to graduate. Civ faded into a fond, but distant, memory and I didn't pick it up again until recently with Civ3.
