wow ! Drak is a Doc ! ^^ :goodjob: Good to know ! ^^ Say Doc ....ummm.... Is there any cure for Civ addiction ? :mischief: Not that I'm addicted mind You - I can stop everytime I want ! :D It's uhhh ... friend of a friend who is addicted ..... :shifty:

I've picked IT since I've been a helpdesk "professional" for ISP company (for 3 odd years) - which is simply repeating the phrase "Have You tried turning it off and on again" about a 1000 times a day - literally :D Resigned from that because it was driving me crazy :crazyeye: Right now I'm Uni graduate unemployed - looking for a nice job but I can't find anything which is worth it. Meanwhile I do a various odd jobs here and there - which are not worth mentioning. I guess You can call me a slacker :D

LOL, not a Doc, Med Aid/HSA supervisor actually. Although, you could still come to me in order to alleviate your... Err, your friends Civ Addiction. I have some wonderful pharmaceuticals that could make you forget what planet your on, let alone what game your playing. Although, come to think of it, if your playing Alpha Centauri, that could be a whole different problem in itself.

In my experience- erm, uh, I've been told- that playing Civ under the influence of... "pharmaceuticals" is bad for your game. You load the game the next day and wonder why your navy is forming a gigantic eight-pointed star in the middle of the ocean and why you have a conga line of assorted missionaries and execs in a winding line out in the desert. :mischief:

Come to think of it I may.... err my friend may need a long therapy after all :D Say .... several hundred turns a week would be a proper dosage ? ^^

At the moment, I'm a metallurgical technician, but I have my degree in Materials Engineering. I hope to obtain a Materials Engineer position in the next few years after I get enough experience.

IT Director

I'm curious to know who voted for Arts and Entertainment. Perhaps we have a movie star in our midst...

We have a Great Engineer in the making ^^

I would have loved to vote that, unfortunately music is only a serious hobby for me... But I'll let y'all know if I become a rockstar or something :D

Nope I'm an evil financial dude (my boss used to do subprimes!!!) but I'm giving it up and going back to IT business analysis (in finance)

"Other" I'm a Renaissance Man, which a behavioral psychiatrist might explain as one whom can't commit.

Sometimes I say what I've done the longest (writer) or
sometimes as what I earned the most (political economist) or
what I enjoy the most (architectural designer) or
am primarily doing now (construction general contractor)

But I rarely bring up my early careers (travel agent, political campaign organizer, theatre scenery construction) or

"curiosity" jobs (to see what it is like) of factory worker, forklift operator, phone center customer service, cable (TV) service technician, landscaper, and on and on...

I did. But I must disappoint you, not a movie star... Music is my trade. Though I did dabble around in computer science before I decided I wanted to do something more challenging.

Post-grad chemical engineering dude here, specializing in membranes, polymer composites, and the like. I work on membranes for water desalination, amongst other things. It's really not that exciting.

Anyone else surprised we have so many science, engineering, and computer guys here as opposed to, you know, history and social science types?

Wow...amazing how much our renaissances (renaissanci?) have in common.

I also write, and have a degree in economics though mine was mostly applied in sales and marketing before I started my own business (skip contractor's license, go to handyman and maintenance services, fast forward to retirement). Add my own early career as a reactor operator on a submarine and assortment of curiosity jobs. Mine was a furniture factory, has both a little one ton forklift in a warehouse and a really interesting stretch at a place that used three ten ton rated lifts to cradle up tanks while a truck backed under them, and plenty of on and on.

Do you really think this means we can't commit?

I'd take a guess that they are repelled by the simplicity of the driving mechanism of a thriving civilization as illustrated by this game. It is simplified in such a way that it is way too inaccurate for them (just look how state property and slavery works, for example). Just a guess.

Hello Doc Lemon ! ^^ I just wanted to say that I will miss You and I want You to quickly come back ^^ Please, pretty please ..... You are far too cool to go out like that ! ^^ Please come back to us at some Point :) Thank You !

Yes that is correct but we do not have many Lemon Merchants there do we ? ;) She is unique ;)

As mentioned (or implied) I'm from social sciences myself, and although what you say is true, the mechanics are simplistic and inaccurate, this is a game after all so I don't think that has much bearing. Only a small fraction of the game's players are active here anyway, and even fewer replied, so it's hardly a representative sample ;)

hi,

the result doesn't surprise me much; as I ranked the poll by the profession I assumed to be the most popular down to the least popular.

as to why we don't have many lingusitics field here is probably because the field itself is saturated with females (i believe the ratio would be 8:2 there) as opposed to engineering (the opposite gender ratio). Civ is a game that appeals to the male brain more, i fathom (SEXIST)

also as to why i ranked government/social work so low is because people that i know who sre in that field aren't attracted to video games (think of Bill Clinton, do you think he's a video game type of person?)

Naaah man do not be silly !! Bill Clinton is a Video Rental kind of person , everyone knows that ! ;) :)

I'm guessing the government sector is rather a lot bigger than just the bloke or gal on top though :D
