Good choice. I found nothing better than being my own boss... and 'nothing better' includes being such a big boss that people you don't even know work for you. Had a big row last year with people who firmly believe that every small business owner wants to be the next Ray Krock so just having your own business and making a living is somehow 'failing' in their view. I could honestly say that I wanted no part of it.

True. There are pros and cons of being our own boss. Sometimes it feels like you have complete control of your time and life. Sometimes it feel like the world is playing tricks against you. Anyhow, I recommend this video should anyone wish to be one:

Well, looks like Ambidexter is our resident navy guy - I'll be our resident Air Force guy (instructor pilot). I'll finish up 20 years in the USAF next April - then I guess it'll be time to decide what I want to be when I grow up... :)

I'm a little surprised, based on the strategic depth of our game, that there aren't more military folks posting... Oh, for the record, I listed myself as 'other' - just couldn't bring myself to put the 'government worker' tag on me!

I married a WAVE and got her out on a pregnancy discharge...she had two and I claim them, so we have 20 between us and are now a resident navy guy.

Smart behavioral psychologists don't practice in the forums, this place is too loony, but my friends all tell me that it's hard to find a man who will commit no matter what the relationship number is. :p

Pretty much any metropolitan area. Full-time incomes range from $25K-$100K. Higher incomes are usually licensed hot dog/sandwich vendors but the rig (grill stand) is expensive.
 
I'm a Master's student in experimental psychology, hoping to get a job in something human factors-related. In the past, I've been a legal assistant (i.e., glorified form-letter-writer) and a political campaign canvasser. When I first played a Civ game (Civ 1, in 1996, I think?), my occupation was elementary school student.

@CivNoobie and @Olson, you make my stomach hurt! I am exaggerating about the street vendor thing :lol:. Yes, I live in a metropolitan area where you can experience heavy traffic on the streets due to people (note: not cars, as they are discouraged to enter the vicinity if that happens). But anyways, I am more onto supply chain for some small to medium size businesses in the country. Very different from what I am doing before.

For the compensation, actually I am poorer than an office clerk fivefold. If sh*t happens, I even don't get my income at all. Still what I am after is the experience and the freedom. I guess you can call me weird for that.

They just don't know quality when they find it, I suppose. Don't bother trying to understand women. We're all idiots, myself included. That's all you need to know. :lol:
