What do you think about Poland?

I think Germany would've thought twice before invading Czech Republic. Probably wait and do a coordinated Polish-Czech invasion at the same time.

Question is, would the pact between Poland and UK&France still happen? Not sure when the timedate for that was.

Ehh, although things would've been different the fact of the matter is that France still failed to invade Germany after the latter took over Czechoslovakia AND invaded Poland, not likely that a Polish-Czech alliance could have coaxed them into action at that point.

Also I'd make fun of the masturbatory nationalism in this thread but that's been done already...

...Vratistlava?

That would be Vorotislav or Vratislav in Russian too, so it's a truer name, verily :p

Also  @ Horni

Lot's of horni chicks there, I would imagine. One more reason to get it back from the Gerries ;)

I am technically a Lithuanian Prince of Polish descent.

Good thing we got rid of the stinkin' blood sucking nobility :gripe: I'm 100% peasant and worker here, 'n proud :smug:

Didn't notice much Polish nationalism here, actually. Just some exessively long technical insights into Polish history, which are fine, given the nature of the forum and the name of the thread.

Something should be done to save the Sorbs from assimilation, yes :mischief:

It's a funny language - a mix of Czech and Polish, both in speech and writing :) It's a shame it will probably die out in a few generations :(

It seems in some way Lusatian sounds more Russian than Czech or Polish, for example they apparently don't say tso instead of cho, just like us. And now they can't pronounce "r", just like the Germans

Btw, confirm something, Winner, will ye? I herd this old Soviet fairy tale is a popular New Year thing in Czechia, is that true?

Remember Germany took Czech lands without fight and got decent equipment of Czech guns for wehrmacht which they used to invade France. Also prior to the war with Poland german moral was in gutter...

So you got the problem with masturbation?

Its so popular that i am actualy sick of it- reminds me of ******** past of sovietic culture. But it has some decent parts, including some of the songs.

Very true. Not a Christmas passes without it being aired at least once - the dubbed version, of course. I've seen it at least 10 times, and some phrases from it have actually become a part of our language ("are you warm, wench?", "Ivan, Ivan..." etc.), you hear them being used in various fitting situations and in humorous contexts.

:)

They used it yet in the invasion of Poland.

Not really, they were already well spirited by nationalistic ideology, untermensch hatred rubbish and such things. Read the "Wehrmacht crimes in Poland" by Jochen Bohler to see how average Wehrmacht soldier perceived Slavic people (many of them were not much better than SS fanatics in this). Add to this all the successes of Hitler's economic policy & foreign policy, military successes - mostly bloodless (except of Spain) prior to that war. Many soldiers of Wehrmacht as of 1939 had been members of paramilitary organizations or Hitlerjugend before starting their military service in Wehrmacht (more detailed % data is given by Jochen Bohler).

I have heard about Hitler pulling his hair off when he learned about how disorganized wehrmacht were at times during the Polish campaign but I have no detailed info....

He might have been doing that after he learned how "well-organized" the Anschluss of Austria had been. The idea that this sort of army could have smashed through Czechoslovakia with no losses in a few days time was laughable, and the Germans knew that. Of course, they didn't need to test that out *sour smiley*

Between Anschluss of Austria in early 1938 and late August 1939 Wehrmacht improved greatly, and not just in terms of numbers - which is the reason why it succeeded in Poland. I'm not sure where you heard that Wehrmacht was "disorganized" by the time of the Polish campaign but close galnce at its operations in Poland doesn't prove that it was any more "disorganized" at that time than during the invasion of France or Russia.

Question is if Czechoslovakians and Western Allies knew that.

Question is if Czechoslovakians and Western Allies knew that.

As I said, the Nazis were masters of propaganda - they made their incomplete, half-trained army look like an unstoppable war machine. It worked better in the West than in Czechoslovakia though. The decision to yield to the terms of the Munich treaty was in itself unconstitutional - the President and the cabinet accepted it without the assent of the parliament, and then ordered the military to obey this unconstitutional order. Even by contemporary laws, there were grounds for having Beneš tried for high treason (which we should have done instead of making him the leader of the government-in-exile which sold Czechoslovakia to the Soviets, but that's another story).

Question is if Czechoslovakians and Western Allies knew that.

There is 20 documented suicides of Czech soldiers who refused to hang over the weaponry to nazis. I dont have to mention these were not act of weakness but of determination to fight the enemy...

But I was talking about Czechoslovakian politicians and generals, not ordinary soldiers.

Well, as late as 1938 it was already well trained (except for Ersatz units - but they were not going to be used in combat).

But still quite "incomplete", here I may agree.
In no way I am trying to say that Poland was fighting bunch of german farmers...
I am not well informed as I have said before but if you find and post some credible information concerning the issue I will be thankfull. G

Czech friends - do you happen to know what language / dialect is this? I understand most of words - they are similar to Polish words:
