Its a tough decision, but i think the biggest problem is the countries xenophobic stance on immigrants and controvercial scientific research.

If it were up to me i would have a much laxer immigration policy and i would pump tons of funds into stem cell research and other neglected sciences.

From an Unamerican's point of view, I'd say the enviroment. Too many SUVs, too little commitment to protecting the enviroment.

Poll is up!

A better educated populace would alleviate a good number of the other problems...

Its not that. Its that people are too religious around here.

Not zeolots. But the politicans are religious and thats whats holding back stem cell research!

I'm religeous but I don't oppose stem-cell research. As long as it doesn't come from a fetus it is fine.

I chose Immigration policy, I dislike how lax Amererica is on that issue.

Dude, you forgot the whole Religion issue... That would be my biggest concern.

What religeon issue? What is wrong with Americans practicing religeon?

Why are you against religion?

Its only when they bring harm to others in the name of religion that its a problem.

But what do you suggest? Be like china or the soviet union and ban religion?

The state cannot control religion. See civ4.

I wish america was lax on the issue.

More immigration means the spread of new ideas and more development of the economy.

And in the future when all the immigrants children are educated we will be a research powerhouse!

The public education system is in need of some serious cuts and changes. Education is one of the most important factors in developing a nation's future workforce.

But I think the greatest problem of all is the overspending of the government, and the bureacracy that runs so many of our useless American budget programs. In their current states, such systems as medicare and social security do more harm than good, and need some major cuts in funding. Currently, the government spends money like my little sister in a shopping center.

"The bureacracy is expanding, to meet the needs of the expanding bureacracy."

The problem with immigration is that we CANNOT educate them all. I would support immigration more if there was a way that they load on the tax-base could be lifted, but the influx of people is straining the economy and our children's intelligence!

Immigration policy needs to be tightened to keep America smart.

Now that i think about it. A lot of ideas and innovations have come from america in the past century.

So if our education system WAS top notch, think of how much further ahead we would be then now!

I think the top issues now are:

Too much immigration controls, should be laxer.

Bad education system. And every american knows it needs improvement.

I'm not an American, but I think the national debt is probably the biggest problem, as it is rapidly increasing, and eventually, if foreign investors start to lose confidence in American business, the entire economical system of America might suffer some kind of collapse, most likely dragging a lot of the world down with it.

I agree it is a problem. But i dont think our economy would collapse if we lost a lot of foriegn investment. We are reliably self suffiecent if need be.

Thats why cpaitolism can bear the burden, if many companies fail due to investors bucking out, then the smaller companies that do not rely on foreigners will rise. That is the balance of power in American economy. Yes, the government is spending a bit, but after a while things will settle out.

I agree wholeheartedly, it is self-sufficent enough that it wouldn't collapse; China however would collapse if American economy just flopped.

America itself is the problem. /cryptic message

Other. Simply put, American law and government has effectively lost the English Common Law heritage that it started with, (Specifically the part where there is a belief in a Natural Law higher than the government's law) and has now adopted the model of the Roman Empire, basically what the State says is right, and there is no higher authority. A lot of America's governmental problems could be solved if they just got that right.
