Hi, i recently preordered a game that was meant to arrive in 2 days (so i could take it on holiday) but it didn't arive for another 6 weeks!
What do you all think of pre-ordering?

Awful! I saw people that pre-ordered Civ3 have to wait many days after me since I ran down to the store the day it came out. Now, when my brother did it with Madden 2005 it was very worth it - he got a copy of it the day it came out while many other people had to stand in line just for the CHANCE to get it (he got to skip the line).

I don't know where the heck ya'll people are pre-ordering¿¿
Go to your local GameStop. They have a wonderful Pre-order system. You simply make a $5 down payment on most games, and the day it comes out you ARE the first ones to get it (provided you are among the high percentage of people in first shipment unless it's huge game like Halo 2) and on the day it comes out tey call you and you come and pay the rest of it and be happy :D

No problems there!

I don't preorder very often, usually when I do it is because there is a bonus for preordering (such as the bonus disc for Mario Kart, or the extra GBA-GCN link cable for FF:Crystal Chronicles). Also if I'm really hyped up for a game and want the game the second it is released, then I preorder. For example, I'll preorder Metroid Prime 2 sometime in the near future, as the release day is November 15, which means that it will hit stores ON my birthday. I'm preordering that game for sure.

It sucks. Everybody on this forum who preordered RTW is still waiting for it, and those who didn't preorder are playing it right now!

I've pre-ordered once, and it arrived on the day it was released here. I only pre-order something if I really want it, and the site I use is highly reliable. Even though I've only pre-ordered once, I know they're reliable because I've ordered a few other things, and they've all arrived the day after they've been shipped. :)

I can't believe you say it's reliable! For non-gaming products it may be but i dob't think six weeks is quick!

Unless you live in new zealand, we won't be talking about the same site. And yes it is reliable. Games I've ordered arrive the day after they ship, same as with anything I pre-order from there. It's a gaming store, so it sells games and peripherals, as well as anime.

I pre-ordered both Star Wars Battlefront and the dvd trilogy from the site, both arrived on release date. :D I could've pre-ordered Rome: Total War and it would've arrived on release date too. :p

I only pre-order because I'm too lazy to go to my local game store which is about 40 minutes away from where I live. As of yet I've never had a bad experience from preordering a game, so I do it all the time.

I tend to order games online although RTW is probably the only game I've actually preordered and hopefully it will arrive on the same day it is released in the UK.

I had bad experiences with Fallout 2, just as described. I think it came out on a Friday and the shipping delays meant that everyone who just bought it in the stores was able to play it 3 days before my friend and I (who both pre-ordered it).

On the other hand, we ordered the Sims 2 recently as a pre-order and got it before the stores, and With the bonus cd. Sometimes pre-ordering is the only way to get that bonus content. It's true that much depends on the reliability of the company you're ordering from. Someone else mentioned Gamestop as a good source, that's where we got TS2, so I can affirm that. Another good company is Gogamer.com.

By pre-order are you people talking about online sites? or like physical places to go? GameStop the actual store has a great pre-order system. But ya'll are talking about sites... maybe you shouldn't trust one of your favorite to-be games over an internet site...

I'm talking about sites

I preorder of Gameplay all the time. They are much cheaper than the shops, plus there's a good chance of getting the game a day before the release date. Always a plus

I don't see how they can charge less and get it to you earlier. I don't think the system works that way...
