What do you think the strongest UB is?

I'm not sure if the Mayan UB is the strongest, but as tyrael said, it is incredibly powerful. 4 times the yield of the base building! And so cheap!

It comes a little later, but Askia's Mud Pyramid Mosque is great: +2 Culture, +2 Faith, and no maintenance, builds on a shrine to give a minimum of +3 Faith per city. Even a small 4 - 5 city Songhai Civ can whip out 12 - 15 Faith per turn: you might not get the first Pantheon, but you can build up one mighty powerful religious game with them, while saving your Gold for other uses...

I like both the mud mosque and the burial tomb with the +2 culture +2 happiness religious beliefs. Makes for some snazzy no-maintenance temples. +4 culture +2 faith +2 happiness or +2 culture +2 faith +4 happiness is neato, even if its not the best way to use beliefs

I get the same feeling from mughal forts with neuchwanstein (sp)

The Mayan UB is the best, I think. +2 science that early in the game is huge, and it gives +2 faith as well. It opens so many options so early.

another vote for the Mayan UB

it is available so early and the science/faith bonuses (boni?!?) are very helpful in numerous of ways...

floating gardens - is underrated.
longhouse - makes Iroquois scary in a forrested region
coffee house looks pretty good on paper, haven't had a chance to use it yet tho.

I just finished a game as austria and I thought the coffee house was really useful, I was making almost 50 GE points per turn so I would get one once every 30-40 turns but I do like the ethiopian UB for early religion

I really like the Iroquois longhouse, but it is quite situational.

Floating gardens is even better now that their are a few faith beliefs that enhance food/growth (+10% city growth panthenon, +15% growth whilst not at war follower, +1 food from shrines and temples follower.). Combine those with maxed out tradition, hanging gardens for your capital, and Ally with all maritime cs's, and you have yourself a powerhouse.

Ethiopias monument replacement is insanely powerful in that not only does it mean all cities will have an extra +2 faith, but in that you can build it right away, which all but guarantees first dibs on panthenons and beliefs. Everytime I see 'an unknown civ has founded the religion of christianity', in like 1000 BC I know its Ethiopia.

1. Pyramid
2. Floating Gardens
3. Longhouse
4. Bazaar
5. Paper Maker

Great question, there are a few that are really worth mentioning I think.

Bazaar is probably one of the best, but there are problems with it. Sometimes, no matter what you do, everyone winds up hating you. Or, more plausibly, you will only have a few trading partners and tons of resources. It gets better the larger the map size, I'd say.

Both the Pyramid and the Stele are incredible. The faith boost helps ensure they get one of the first picks of pantheon and religious beliefs, and you are almost guaranteed to be building them in every city you found. They also allow these civs to enjoy more faith per city than any other civ (except maybe the Celts).

The Pyramid's science is huge, no other UB grants additional science, and helps put the Maya up there with Korea and Babylon in terms of science (especially if you get an early GS and make an academy).

Floating Gardens creates monster cities and is probably my favorite UB, since I love going tall.

Satrap's Court and Burial Tomb are great as well, because yes please to happiness. I could probably sit here all day expounding on the benefits of each and every building, so I'll just cut this off here.

I thought the coffee house was a little underwhelming. It's just a windmill with 5% extra production and +25% great person generation.

That's wrong. You can only build a Windmill, if your city isn't on a hill. A Coffee House can be build everywhere. That is pretty good. But it isnt the best UB, because it comes so late and the effect isn't that big.

I think the best UB is the Bazaar. Second place is Floating Garden, third place is a tie of Stele and Pyramid.

Bazaar simply rocks, because it generate sooo much gold with trading. The start bias of Arabia is also nice with Desert Folklore.

i'll vote for the stele for guaranteed first religion. also, you can get them for free with tradition.

no love for the ceilidh hall? +3 happy from any building is pretty damn powerful, and you can get 4 for free as well.
