Scotland no.1, brilliant post. Not just for the traits (bang on) but also about what made the British empire just that - the British, not the English. Actually a lot of Irish and Indians were involved as well, but it certainly would not have been as successful as it was without the Scots or the Welsh. Which is why I put "my country" (England) rather than "UK" or "Britain" by my post.

Id just like to add to what Scotland No1 said, which was btw, by 1900 25% of the worlds ships were made in Scotland. And boats were the main/only method of transport back then across water-- this shows how industrious. And when the Jacobytes were around they could have easily taken England. Except just before they got to the capital(London) they decided to go home. All be it, the English would have almost definately revolted, but this just shows that Scotland should be Recignoised as its own Country, as with n-ireland, and Wales

Yes Scotland was a sovereign state and in all the major wars in modern history English, welsh, irish troops all fought side by side. England failed to overun Scotland, yes so did the romans we only became a union when your King was crowned king (or queen ? ) of england due to our monarch fielding no heirs to the throne.However I meant we are more a country as Great Britain than truely independent of each other, and London is the centre of Goverment.

Gainy bo, yes the jacobytes made massive progress into England. wasnt this near the war of the Roses? anyway teh jacobytes were fighting recently drafted troops whilst teh army fought in France. When regualr soldiers were made availble the Jacobyte uprising was crushed

This is a problem when it come to civ. When in a countries history do you take the civ's trait.
The problem with the British and the English is that the English were always British, but the British Empire was every country that they invaded.
The assimalation of the local troops into the British Army must show it to be one of the best expansionist armies in the world. What they couldn't beat with force, they ended up getting with a cultural flip (how come we never conqured the highlands, but they became part of the UK anyway?

It is hard for us English to sometimes have a sense of Englishness, so don't blame us when we take the other union countires abilities for ours.

So, again, to get back onto the subject. My revised thoughts on what abiliteis.
At different time in our history we have been the world leader in all aspects, Yes world leader.

The best Armies

The best Expansionist (But they only gave us Settlers or warriors )

The best Industrious (Well, we did start the revalution)

The Best Traders (we needed to be)

The Best.....No, can't say it for religion. We were Pagan's, set up our own church as we didn't like the established one. We had a few witch-trials when the Spanish had the Inquisition. No, we had Richard the Lionheart and his Crudaders. So we have another leader and new special unit (They were the best trained troops or the Era)

So, the English can have Every trait.

The Jacobyte uprising wasnt crushed because regular soldiers were made available, they were crushed because they hesitated on attacking London, and ran away instead. The english army could then regroup and easily dispose of the rebels (who were fleeing).

And i dont know anything about the war of roses, i dont really know much about British/english history until about 1880...

narrow-mindedness: the people tend to refuse revolutions, the chance of assimilation is less, your ships can never leave coastal tiles, culture flips are not possible ( in both directions, except for the germans, even the capital will tend to flip to germany especially while those are under fascism)
authority-loving: no WW at all, military police limit is 4 for any kind of government

UU: first: tyrolean lederhosen fighter 1/3/0 warrior code
( it doesnt want to leave home, but will denfend it like hell)

second: the austrian soccer team 1/0/1 nationalism
( it will rund around autonomically after beeing built and will always try to beat the german soccer team but can succeed only once during a whole game; after that happened there will be at least 3 pop ups every turn wich remind you of that victory)

Well, I'd like to think that the USA should get all six traits. The Old Confederacy is religious and militaristic (supplying a large part of the US military), the area affectionately called "Yankee land" is definitely industrious and commercial, and the West is scientific (lots of spiffy universities) and expansionist.

I think we should get a better unique unit. I'm sorry, but the F-15 unit sucks. Maybe the UU could be a modified mechanized infantry, call it something like Armored Cavalry, and give it a/d/m of 12/18/3.

carlos mm the country you talk about is it france or germany?
the american government called the french cheese eating surrender monkeys...im sure if the USA shared a border with germany during WWII they would have easily been taken over also. and the USA was helped during their wars of independance by french soldiers and the french fleet. If america pisses of France anymore i would ask for the statue of liberty that they built back

P.S. how can 90% of the world hold 10% of the wealth....Communism is the way forward..oh and also before u say anything no russia china and north korea arent/werent communist countries they were brutal dictatorships. proper communist and socialist countries are cuba and libya(richest country in africa after it chucked the USA out) so communism does work and can work!...

Australia would proabably be a combination of....
1)commercial, We export vast amounts of different 'things' to other countries,
2)Industrious, we are hard workers and
3)scientific.we put a lot of effort and money into research.

Expansionist? It takes to long to go somewhere as it is.
Religous? More people here worship sport than God.
Militaristic? Our Country is larger than the whole of europe + the UK but with less than the population of NY.

Any other Aussies care to comment?
