What do you think would be your country's traits if included in CIV?

gugalpm, what is your obsession with bashing the U.S.? You do it every chance you get. Your statements (as usual) are complete bull and absolutely 0% truth to them (except the 'non-intelligent' one, that is purely just your own personal opinion).

GET OVER IT! You got a major mental problem with your constant obsession. No one here cares to listen to you ramble on about a country you hate and you making gross exaggerations/fallicies. Take that crap to some other forum. This is Civ3, not the Off-Topic forum (although comments like you made would probably be deleted there as well).

Everyone, this thread asked for YOUR countries traits, NOT what you think of OTHER countries.

oh please, no fight.
gugalpm - why industrious? wouldn't be commercial? cara, deixa pra lá. eu sei q tu ta certo, mas esses maluco sofrem lavagem cerebral do titio bucha, deixa quieto...

This is an English-language site. Please speak in English so others can understand you.

why industrial?
See some of the buildings our country has... Itaipu, the Transamazonica, the Rio-Niterói bridge...

Please speak in English instead of Portueguese.

i would say commercial because since we have been a colony we just send away everything we had, from 1500's wood to 2000's soybeans.

That's why I prefer to call it industrious...
because even with so much problems, we still can accomplish things most countries can't...

England wouldn't be expansionist if nowadays, right?

I would associate being expansionistic with "exploring" and conquering.

Nowadays England is a dependency of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland; it does not have the freedom to even make the decision to be expansionistic!

Ancient England conquered France, but it's King was of French decent so it could be seen as more like "uniting" the realms which he had an interest in.

At the time of King Richard III England was powerful but it only used that power to "liberate" specific people.

Do not confuse England with Great Britain, they are entirely different entities.

It's like asking... what were the traits of the Republic of California?

Is that an african or a european swallow??

Always a tricky topic, asking people to rate their own countries. The civilizations in Civ3 are represented at the peak of their power / presence / culture / ... in history, so keep that moment in mind when rating.

Please refrain from dragging current day politics or nation bashing into this. There are good things and bad things to be said about all countries and we don't need to emphasise our cultural differences by making derogatory comments about other nations or their present or recent leaders.

Let's consider Canada.

First, we're Industrious. A no brainer because we're part of the G7 and we can support all of our infrastructure while being only 31 millions.

Then, you got the choice. We eliminate Millitaristic and Religious.
-Expansionnist: We have the second largest land mass in the world.
-Scientific: did you hear of Canadarm 1 and 2, of 735 kV lines, of the motorwheel, of ...
-Commercial: We've got the biggest commercial relation in the worl with the USA.

So, the second trait is kinda hard to choose.

I really doubt as many civs are industrious as people like to say they are. I don't know enoiugh about canada to say, but in general...

Not to take anything away from Canada, but hasn't it actually shrunk since being awarded independence? That wouldn't be synonymous with being expansionistic.

It's bordering with the USA, so it would naturally have more trade with that nation. Being a bridge, the UK may have a trade advantage - especially when taking population into account.

There have been scientific developments in every corner of the globe and I wouldn't consider Canada as being a bigger contributor than it's peers.

But still in science, Canada does host the Commonwealth of Learning, so I would be inclined to give the nation a pat on the back for this :)

Also, it has developed unique military units like the Avro Arrow Cold War interceptor - although it didn't go into mass production you can be sure it would have had there been a war. There is some belief the USA paid to keep it from being massed produced because it was capable of intercepting their fabled Blackbird (?) and because the team moved to work for NASA.

One of Canada's strengths is it's membership to multiple international associations like the Francophile, Commonwealth of Nations, United Nations (and others?) which might give it a slight edge over the UK and puts it way ahead of the USA in terms of international influence on politics.

Another of Canada's strengths is it's very high culture, which was originally inherited but is now a prominent source in it's own right.

So... and although these traits aren't available... how about Cultural & Political :)

"What is the speed velocity of un unladen swallow?"

'Britons? Who are the Britons then?'.
' King?.. I didn't vote for you'.
'You crazy English types with your knees bent running around business'.

Perhaps trying to define a countrie's traits on old world abilities might seem a bit unrealistic for the modern world.
Why not develop new traits such as Entertaining, Sporty, etc.
Can't traits be what a country is currently famous for and not what it was in the 'good old days'?

Wouldn't this cause ten times more animosity among forum members? :D

We can debate history, but there's only a small difference between the interpretations of primary sources.

We can debate current day, but we would all turn furious, forge alliances and begin flame wars.

Perhaps, but aren't traits suppose to be what a country is THE MOST famous for?
How do you define a relatively new country that hasn't had a few hundred years of expansion and development?
I come from a country that is only just over 200 years old. We've just had our centenary of federation last year. We not expansionists but we are the product of expansionism.
Were not militaristic but in the last 2 years we've participated militarily in East Timor and more recently in Iraq. But you wouldn't call us militaristic.
Religous? Not likely
But you could apply commercial because of our vast exporting capacity,Industrious because most Aussie's are hard working and Scientific because of all the research that we do via the various universitys and Gov bodies like the CSIRO.

Now my point is this. You could define us by the last 3 traits mentioned but it's probably not what we are famous for. When most people think of Australia they think of our fabulous scenery, to them it's a tourist destination. So I would think defining us as toursitic (if that is a word) would make more sense.

I was trying to see if anyone else could come up with some new world traits and redefine their country accordingly,as I think that what some of the older countries were and what they are now are 2 different things.
Perhaps someone could reply and tell me what they think Australia is famous for? What traits old or new we might have.

yeah but there is only 6 traits to choose from, even modern countries like the USA had to use the same traits in the game as ancient ones like babylon
