What do you want to see in Civilization 5?

I want to see tech invention to be a little different too... If you set 80% to science, then you should be able to spilt those up in "sub categories" like war, trade, culture and so on... maybe not som many categories, but still... This would make tech trading mutch more interesting...

How would war and trade apply?

This reminds me of another thing. In Civ2, when you conquered a city, the game would give you one tech advance that that civ had which you didn't previously have. Now, that was probably overkill, but to be realistic, if you defeat a Rifleman unit with a wave of knights (in typical "spear beats a tank" civ glory which we all know and love), there is no reason why you shouldn't have a *percentage chance* of being able to reverse-engineer the rifles and have your own gunsmiths figure out how to make them, thus "discovering" that tech without beakers. This would put "tech as spoils of war" in a very realistic middle ground between the Civ2 and Civ4 extremes, as this is how real civs in real life often came across these technologies: captures weaponry on the battlefield!

Or does Sid Meier still think the Navajo just whipped up some scientists in a lab to figure out how to make Winchester rifles?

I definately Want to see the game created with the same amount of modability if not even more as Civ 4 did.

1. Units – MORE, MORE, MORE. More variety in eras and variations. Give me the following:
• An early form of cavalry with a lance rather than a bow.
• Better artillery - I want to be able to bombard everything, not just defences.
• A musket unit between the arquebus and the rifleman, something with a bayonet.
• A generic Special Forces (commando) unit.
• UAVs
• Wider variety of ships. I want some form of combat ship between a Carvel and the Frigate, and where are the larger ships (Man-o-War etc). What about Dreadnaughts and modern frigates/destroyers/cruisers. We need more than one type of submarine. I also want a modern form of marine transport like the Wasp Class Amphibious Assault ship that can carry aircraft, helicopters and troops.
• Missiles – Cruise missiles and make it possible to be loaded on all types of modern marine vessels.
• Helicopters – A transport helicopter would be good.
• Modern infantry that don’t look like they belong in WWII, perhaps even a form of infantry that follows on from them. And where are my paratroopers?
• Guerrillas. Why were they removed? I had so much fun with them when opening a campaign.

2. Airbases, Outposts and radar. I want to watch my borders and set up strategic outposts without having to build a city on an island that is only 1 or 2 squares in size.

3. Oil pipelines that must connect to cities with a port before you can sell it.

4. Colonies – Bring them back for those hard to reach resources.

5. Infrastructure networks, I want to be able to form infrastructure networks. We have road and rail but what about power and telecommunications? I want to be able to establish a power grid so that I don’t have to build a power station in every city. Make it so that one power station can power any number of cities provided the total population doesn’t go above a set level (at which point you have to build more power stations to cope with demand). This would mean having to build transmission lines between cities and having to protect them during war. The same could apply to telecommunications. Just add another wire to the graphics for the power lines (or vice versa). The more cities are connected to the grid the more gold you can generate from trade/commerce and your military units get some sort of bonus to represent better command and control.

I want the Council from Civ II back. Also caravans, not to open up trade routes but as a sort of mini-merchant to move to another city (perhaps only one on a different continent) to make some extra cash.

Council eh? Complete with corny acting?

We can have ancient era actors acting all barbarian like, wearing fur and such clothing

Then we move to toga wearing councilors

Medieval age councilors wearing ye olde style clothes

The renaissance style councilors

Industrial age Victorian clothed councilors

Modern age councilors

And then if applicable councilors in futuristic clothing...

I think that would be great fun.

-Civil Wars
-Missles(unlike civ4)
-have some smaller countries for civs (Nepal,Iceland,ect...)

I would like to see elections. For example if you have a civic which involves elections (Representation, Universal sufferage) they should take place every 20 turns (25,30,40 whatever). If you win good, if you lose the ai takes over until the next election.

I would also like to see a world congress for trading cities as seen in some mods.

I think that you should be able to buy/sell cities fo gold, cities, etc or lease cities for a period of time for resources or gpt etc.

I'm a big fan of your ideas. Having lots of Fuedal-style cities or Minor States in your empire seems like a fantastic idea- paticularaly if you could appoint your own lord/king/leader...

Whoops, Ignore.

I like this idea. It allows for "Hong Kong" scenarios.

A couple things I would like to see in the next Civ. Early the game you could have arranged marriages/diplomatic marriages to expend your empire. The second is the effect of media on governments and your ability or lack of to spin the news.

In the modern ages or so fighting in cities becomes more in depth.(I.E Building to building street to street fighting.) Then, once you have captured 70% of the city you can tell it to build stuff etc. etc.
