What features from older games would you like to see in Civ V?

CtP Infrastructure.
Allocating a portion of your income to spend on infrastructure rather than having to manage a bunch of workers.
Combining Units into an army, would be particulary handy with 1UPT, say to a three unit max so you could have and artillery/archery unit, combined with a melee and flanking unit for protection

I want civil wars back from Civ2. When a capital was taken, there was chance that the civ would split into 2. I think that would be a lot of fun!

When did civ ever have an intelligent AI?
You're right that they were never that smart but at least they didn't denounce and declare war on you for no reason at other than the pure randomness of what they will do after each turn. I actually think that after each turn there is a little wheel with a bunch of choices and it is spun to decide what the AI will do.

I'd like to see an economic victory included. That's a much more realistic way to dominate the world than, say, diplomacy. I'd also like to see religion included, but without the PC considerations. Give every religion certain attributes, just like each civ has. Bringing governments back, instead of embedding them in social policies, would be good too. It would make a little more sense if a communist civ hates you because you're democratic, rather than for unknown reasons, like we have now.

amother element of civ that is shamefully lacking in ciV is RESOURCES
yes, quantifiable strategic resources is a good idea, but why aren't luxury resources limited as well

also, marble and its one city bonus is flawed (all wonders, really?)
bring back stone & copper, add some new ones and improve the whole wonder/building bonus thing

Unlike Civ II Gold, where the AI always declared war on you. :p

I would like to see some ability to change your borders without going to war.

I brought up earlier how we could just try to trade goods, or money for land. Maybe the territory itself could have an in-game economic impact. Like an empire with a weak economy may not be able to maintain its expanded borders, so selling the land to a neighbor would be beneficial.

At the moment a great artist can grab some land from the AI for a diplo hit (what doesn't hit diplo?)

There are real world instances of 2 or more nations redrawing their borders due to something economically, culturally, politically, or naturally occuring.

Unit stacking, a combined arms bonus, a multiplayer feature that works well and has all of the features we've come to expect from MP games, more techs/buildings/units/tile improvements so the game actually has stuff for us to do besides hitting end turn, I also want them to speed up growth and production so there is more feeling of accomplishment and so we can actually go to war before the medieval period. As everyone already knows diplomacy is completely broken (I've even got denounced by unknown civs; I.E. civs I haven't even met yet and who supposedly don't know I exist) while the AI needs a massive amount of work.

I have to admit I liked that feature in CTP though workers always have been part of Civ so it's hard to give them up.

Aside from public works, which is so superior to workers that it is beyond belief that Firaxis refuse to change their ways, the best things about CTP were:

1. Army formations (super cool). I think you could stack about 9 military units on a tile. When combat occurred a special screen came up with all the regiments, divisions, artillery, cavalry neatly arranged. There was even a retreat button for when things were going badly.

2. Terrorist units, slaver units, a whole host of FUN ways to wreak havoc on opponents without going to war. There was a corporate executive unit who could be positioned in an enemy city and had a small chance of stealing money from that civ. COOL! :D

3. Disease: disease was represented in CTP. Realistically, disease increased with open borders, international trade routes etc. You had to take steps to ensure public health.

4. At the time the CTP graphics blew away Civ2 and Civ3.

5. CTP introduced the concept of rebels spawning when the empire was very unhappy, years before something similar was patched into Civ5.

CTP, and especially CTP2, had tons of great features but the worst AI EVAR ... :D

If activision do ever buy out Take Two, there's a chance of a return of the CTP games. I'd like to see most of the CTP stuff reappear, though I'd rather get rid of individual units as much as possible, or converge them into a more generalized unit, such as the BTS spies who perform many of the commands the individual non-combat units in CTP did

Besides the AI the thing I disliked most about CTP2 was the fact that trade routes were visibly marked on the map and an enemy unit could pillage the trade on any square the route crossed. This made trying to police your trades an absolute nightmare! I prefer a simpler abstraction like the naval blockade in Civ4.

Stacking, interesting economic choices.

I want the civ 3 map editor back this new map editor is way to complicated to use even though i have fugured it out now. This whole i have to create a whole new mod any time i want to change anything on the map is annoying. Yes i have tried to edit just the map in the mod to no avail and the instructions are less the explainitory. I am the type of player who just wants to paint some dirt, plop some start spots, scatter some resources around, then save and play. I mean really, i am NOT changing any rules here just the playing surface and to have to go through the hoops necessary to make even simple, minor changes to the map is silly. Yea yea yea i know there are pros out there who want to make senarios, new civs, change the rules but i am not one of those. I want the CIV 3 map editor or al least give me the simpler to use even though it has less functionability than civ 3 map editor from 4, but all these convolutions one must go through to make and play a simple map is just plain dissappointing.

The feature I want added to Civ 5 is fun. It's quite boring, and no fun. :)

The single unit stacking is completely lame. Fine, the stacks of Doom maybe got out of hand. They could have made a stacking limit (possibly different in cities vs. outside as well) with a number higher than 1. Say, 10? or 5?

Religion in Civ was fun.

Being able to change civics was neat.
For example, in real history, Roman civics/culture changed after Christianity was adopted.

I especially enjoyed in the latest patch, when I signed open borders with an AI, and they sent a military unit into my Civ, blocking my movement. Ah, fun, fun.

Per-city happiness was more fun that empire happiness.
If they wanted to add an "empire-wide happiness concept, let that be a modifier to per-city happiness with a maximum adjustment.

ie, people is the capital get a -3 happiness adjusted for overall empire happiness levels, because many cities on the fringe have been unhappy for a long time.

Seriously, if you think about it from a historical perspective. I bet the people of Rome were very happy when, say, the Gauls were made very unhappy initially for being conquered. Now, if the Gauls are still very unhappy 50 or 100 years later, then "overall empire unhappiness" could adjust down the happiness in core cities.

Of course, complexity in gameplay seems to be something that Civ 5 wanted to avoid. Perhaps they think that people are getting stupider, so they want a simpler game.

I don't think this game should have been called "Civilization" since it is such a departure from the previous games in the series. If they called it "Civ Revolution PC", real Civ players would have understood, and Civ 5 could come out later.

What features from older games would you like to see in Civ V?

I think civ5 could use some first person rocket launcher action like in Halo.
