What if humans could reproduce asexually and sexually?

What's the next thread idea - what if the moon was out of cheese?

Not only do hermaphrodites have both male and female reproductive organs, they cannot impregnate themselves, regardless what bad horror authors claim.

Ever heard of the term self fertilization?

It exists in sponges and hydras also.

And some amphibia can actually change their gender. But also that is irrelevant since this thread is about humans.

Well i was saying if they were asexual which they are not so it could be possible if they were.

In i did say in the opening post that everyone would be considered hermaphroditic also.

So basically you're asking that if humans weren't humans would human history have beem different?

Yeah, our brains owe a lot to sexual reproduction - not only was the mixing of genes caused by sex largely responsible for allowing them to get so big, but it seems likely that social skills, and a larger and larger brain, were important in finding mates.

I suspect we would have been wiped out by flying pigs long ago...

So what if someone discovered a means to allow humans to reproduce asexually? Not a piece of equipment or an expensive technological process, but a way to change what we are, quickly and cheaply.

How would society adapt to a growing number of people who didn't need a partner? Would it change at all?

Do you think society would of changed at all? It probably would have.

Kings and other monarchs in history may have favored reproducing asexually to garuntee the survival of thier kingdom.

There would probably be laws regarding it also. And would there be discrimination against asexually reproduced children as opposed to sexually reproduced children? Which would be preferable in popular culture?

At least it would offer an alternative to people who could not find a partner to have kids. But if people were asexual, there would also probably not be gender roles, so for the purpose of this lets say everyone is a hermaprodite.

It would change A LOT! Really a lot! Even the slightest change in history would change the present times totally!

If I could reproduce asexually there would near be tow fo me and not oonly could I not handle that but I dont think CFC OT could as well. One of me is bad enough eh? Likely my offspring would even be more like my great grandfather than I am. Which would be......
