What is maximum number of Civs (playable & city states)

yeah you'd think it's 22 majors, 40 minors and #63 for barbs based on the numbers shown so far, but i wouldn't be surprised if we can push majors way up there. its worth testing to see how many can be put in game

if its a limit of 22 though.. that's some poor foresight on firaxis. aren't they going to keep on putting out new civs DLC? what happens when they reach 5 new civs? include a lenghty README so people that buy the DLC know that you can't activate more than 4?

in any case worth testing to see the limit

during my test to select minorcivs, I remember that setting a major civ to a player ID > GameDefines.MAX_MAJOR_CIVS result in a crash at the end of first turn...

but if not now, I suppose this value could be changed once we get the c++ sdk as in Civ4. (and then firaxis can change it in any patch)

well remember that more is not always better, and iirc pretty much every civ game was released with a fairly small number. The max was 18 in civ4 yet we had a ton more leaders/civs than that.

also smellymummy, even if we had 18 dlc civs we could use them all at once, just don't use the vanilla ones ;)

I'm not a fan of the dlc though, i would most definitely prefer an expansion model instead.

dlc or user made civs, either ones

i think a quick way to see what's the upper limit is to use WB and just add civs in the scenario editor. 63 is probably the upper limit though

Sorry for bringing up an old thread. I did do a search.

Is Civ5 still coded for 22 player civs? And did it change in the GotY edition?

I'm having trouble deciding on which civs to put on map and which ones to leave out.
