What is preloading?

i opened steam today and i noticed a button preloading at civ 6 (i pre ordered it)

What does this mean can i play it allready? can it do harm if i click it ?

It loads all the files expect for some critical files, that way on launch day you only need like 10KBs instead of a full download. Saves you, and more importantly their servers a lot of hassle. Preload away!

So there is no harm in preloading now? it will not corrupt my files?. it will just save me some time at the release date to play the game.

Yes, lots of players. In fact, STEAM encourages it. It takes some pressure off their servers, and generates just a little more hype.

Yes i never used that feature.. I am a noob at that point. i only have steam for civ 5 and civ 6

Right, but you could just ask in the thread about pre-loading which is on the first page here -though you wouldn't need to as it's already been asked and answered there. Or, I don't know -google it.
