I've been experimenting and driving myself insane trying to figure out what's the best trait, so... I'll let you folks tell me.

It depends what type of victory you are going for. If you are looking for conquest or domination, then aggresive is the best whilst creative isn't much use, whilst if you are looking for a cultural victory, the opposite is true.

I voted for Industrious, because what ever victory type you look for, wonders can help, so building them quicker is great. After that, I like either Financial or Philosophical.

Financial, it is overpowered IMHO. If you mix it with organized (Washington) its just rediculous. I like Agressive myself but the benefits arent as great as all that cash being able to upgrade units and afford high research. That is a warmongers friend more than 10% str on melee units. But I do like the cheap barracks. I also like Philosophical just because I like GP.

i always go on scenarios and just pick the leader i like best, regardless of traits. I usually end up with financial, expansive, aggressive or philosophical.
I'm not so sure about great people though, you don't really get anywhere near as many as you should if the game anything like mirrored history. when i play earth 1000AD i get about 7 when i play as a philosophical elizabeth. Also, once you get past the renneisence era and you need about 3 great people to research a tech completely they're nothing like as useful as they were pre medieval. Joining the city isn't as effective as the bonuss are enjoyed for only half the time.

it is defeniely financial although i quite like the industrious trait as well.

Where are the expansive votes??? I love expansive, financial is better, but since you can vote for more than one I picked both. Does anyone else here like expansive like I do?

Spiritual.

When used correctly. More subtle than Finacial and can actually garner more $$$ when used properly to change civics.

Industrious and then Expansive are my two weakest (by my playing styles). Wonders are not game breakers so Industrous at first seemed great to me, but now I realize it is not all that.

There is no best trait. It depends on the situation. :p :)

Actually, creative is one of the best traits you can have for early domination and conquest. Industrial is next to worthless since you can win game without building a single wonder and it's pure luck to get one on high difficulty.
Cultural is also not best for cultural victory, it's only an illusion.

On low difficulties all traits are good, on high difficulties, industrial and expansive are probably two worst, and financial is just boring. Even organized is better.
Spiritual is probably one of the best, aggressive close 2nd one if not the best.
Washington being one of the best leader because he's both finacial and organized is mere illusion, he's one of the most unflexible leaders.

As was said - they all have their uses depending on what victory you are going for, and also your style of play. I like Spiritual because it eliminates those annoying little anarchies between civics - they do add up. I also like industrious and aggressive. From what I am seeing here I think I shall research financial a little more.

I like Industrious and Creative 'cause i usually play non-aggressive style of game, i just defend my boards and build wonders in different cities and pay more attention to technology research and construction of useful buildings in cities. If someone decide to attack me I will defend well (and set up Nationhood if possible), just waiting until i get technology that enables new more powerful units. Then i build these units and start attacking operation (and try to find any allies in this war). But in the expansion Warlords i will surely play for a leader with Imperialistical trait (to build settlers faster)

There is the etheral Spiritual, for anarchy is a bad state to be in...

And yet there's the shiny Financial, for money always helps...

But what of the fiery Aggressive, for a skilled army is a powerful one...

And yet the steadfast Organized beckons, keeping down my costs of Empire...

Splendid Industrial also demands attention, because Wonders are nice to have...

But fair Creative always steals the show, both in peace and during times of war...

And wise Philosophical always saves the day, bringing in Great People from near and far...

And last, but never least, is robust Expansive, for a healthy population is a blessing to any ruler...

<KUNO>I Must have them all!</KUNO>

Seriously, they're all pretty good. Financial might be the most flexible one, since more commerce is always useful, but I wouldn't call it "best." Their utility varies depending upon your situation, the win you're striving for, and your level of play.

I also play random games almost exclusively, so I enjoy tailoring my strategy to my traits, rather than my traits being part of my strategy.

Good points folks! :goodjob:

I like Spiritual because I hate anarchy and it's nice to be able to switch when the occasion arises. There have been a few times where I survived an overwhelming attack by switching to Nationhood and drafting.

Financial must be pretty good if the game developers tweaked on the last patch. :hmm:

I'm giving Washington a shot right now on Prince out of curiosity.

I like to play for culture, even though it's damn difficult to win culturally, I still like flipping cities. And I like to produce stuff hella-fast so... I always choose Louis XIV = creative + industrious.

For my playing style, financial seems to be the best trait. I like the fact that I don't have to worry about whether I'm making money or not. Its also nice when you start your game in another era besides ancient or classical.

Like the other 10,000 times this question has been asked (anda poll has been made), financial will be the clear winner.

How about you look at previous polls instead of wasting people's time?

However, the interesting thing would be to know what level the people that voted play on. Clearly it’s not the same if two people vote for different thing, where one plays on emperor, yet another struggles on noble. Not that it matters, but it might be interesting, and would at least make this thread somewhat useful.

I voted for Industrious, but i also like Creative as I said above. I play at Noble (so I'm not so good) but the next game I will surely climb up to Prince. And to tell the truth Ive never tried any leader with financial cause I think its not interesting to play with it

play as england :king: because you get philosophcal and financial.both good not to mentoin the unque unit

I am suprised that aggresive is not more popular. At high levels war is very important, and I find the extra promotion increases the power of your army significantly.
