What is the best RTS (Real Time Strategie) game?

And I have that patience. ;)

I didn't like warcraft 3 much. Maybe it was just my sucky graphics card, or maybe I just like having much larger armies than war3 allows. :)

(500 posts! )

What you just said proved you totally don't understand war3 philosophy. Bah, if you prefer games like total a., where you just build 500 units and send them to slaughtery, then it's your right. Now just keep in mind that War3 is focusing on another gameplay based on absolute micromanagement. So let's compare apples to apples, but not apples to pears. You just can't compare MTW to Empire Earth, nor compare RON to War3. Although they're all called RTS but actually War3 belongs to RTT. T for tactics, and not strategy. Capice.

I wasn't comparing anything. War3 isn't my style because I like larger armies, not as in tank rushing style, but not neccesarily way larger either (like the total war games), but large enough to give the feel of an immense battle going on. I never seemed to have got that from war3. Maybe I'll give war3 another go when I get an decent graphics card.

btw, tactics and strategy are basically the same imho. Afterall, you can't really have one without the other can you? You may have the tactics, but if you don't implement them properly (a strategy), they are useless.

Once again wrong, and wrong. Tactics and strategy and fundamentally different. Just search on a dictionnary, you'll see why. Strategy is a larger scale of management. Maybe you cannot have one without the other one, but that doesn't mean they're the same! You can't have algebra without mathematics, so are algebra and mathematics the same? mmm....

PS: you can also ask a general, or a military person ;)

Thats true I suppose. Maybe my brain wasn't working properly. :crazyeye: I think that what I was trying to point out is that like tactics/strategy on a larger scale than war3 can give me. Which of course does not make war3 a bad game, its just not my prefered type of game.

Starcraft. Warcraft 3 and F T

was Shogun better than MTW?

I don't play TBS games much as I'm not great at constant fast action and manipulations but the one TBS with a deep strategic focus is Europa Universalis II which I would recommend to all lovers of historical strategy games.

as a RTS vet for 9 years, my crown goes to a few titles depending on when they were made:

95-98: Red Alert, Starcraft
98-00: AOK, The Conquerors
01-03: Warcraft III, Frozen throne

why is there 2 thread for this.

as i mentioned in other thread

when u guys are nominating the best game what are u basing on?

on the game u enjoyed the most (which has no effect on what other thinks, so therefore everyone would have different #1s)

or on the game that was the most popular

or the game that was designed the best in gameplay strategy element glitches etc.

If it is the 3rd one, i think everyone should agree stracraft is it. maybe 2nd one too.

Red alert had horribly broken gameplay. It isnt good by that standard.

Starcraft and Sid Meier's Gettysburg are my favorites.

Starcraft!!

I probably enjoyed Red Alert 2 the most out of all the ones I've played.

Balance is overrated. Makes it boring.

dumbest thing i ever heard...

When im taking full advantage of imbalances in games and you are constantly losing because of this, lets see if u would say if that is fun...

You lost at it so you hate it? Fair enough, I suppose.

I never played MP too much, but when I did, it was fun.

But what imbalances bother you so much? Do you think the Prism Tanks are too good?

Age of Empires II: Age of Kings and the Conquerors Expainsion
Star Trek Armada 2

I want to try Empires: Dawn of the Modern World..is that a good game..thinking about getting it, just want to see what people think about it...

Cossacks: European Wars (including the expansions) was and is the best.

Starcraft is good, too.
