Because of the large amount of standard concept changes that go beyond the simple adding of CIVs and Units, I was wondering what level you are going to play your first game on?

Noble. And I expect I'll lose.

That doesn't really make sense. If you play on the lower (pre Noble) difficulty levels, you'll pick up nothing but bad habits for future games! I have decided to stay where I usually play (Monarch) and see if the reduction in AI production bonuses cancel out the improved AI or not.

You're right. It's not sensible.

Maybe I will pick up bad habits.

Maybe I will pick up a change by reading the pop-ups I would have overlooked otherwise. Last time I only stayed in the lower tier for a game each. A nice warm-up.

I guess it makes more sense to play at the no handicap/no bonus level to evaluate the new improved A.I., and I guess it makes sense to play on the level I'm accustomed to notice changes, which = Noble .

Then again, this forum is full of things about this game which make no sense,
and the sensible decisions I've made in my life haven't been the best ones.
I'll give my plan a try.

Noble is the no bonus difficulty, so it'd be fun to play against the AI there, but I think the game will be more fun if the AI gets some bonuses, so I'll probably play Prince my first game.

Also what's up with blake not posting in the Better AI mod forum? Fireaxis got a NDA like that? I want to hear some more about the improved AI from the geeks that write that code. Also will the AI be easier to manipulate? Or will the BtS AI require C++ programming skills to manipulate?

I play on Prince, i don't think i could beat it in BtS. I don't have Warlords, so I might have to go down to warlord.

I always play on Prince. I love to be an underdog. I never ever "wi"n on this level (I don´t care about "scores" annyway, but my civ is usually among the last), but just survives (if I´m lucky).

I've had a string of recent, relatively easy games on noble, and I'm planning to switch to Prince soon. When I get it though, I'll probably stay on Noble until I can a good feel for how everything works. Then I'll make the move to Prince.

I won my first game on Prince not long ago, but I am going to drop down to Warlord. I'm not the greatest at Prince yet, and I want to really get a feel for the new features and how improved the AI may be.

Since all the previews seem to indicate that gameplay and AI have changed significantly and that the game is much more challenging, I will probably play warlord/noble initially, not to just to get on the learning curve, but also to enjoy the new features without much stress. I imagine I will be right back up to my normal level in no time-- the previews usually underestimate us players! :p

Normally I play Prince with Better AI mod. I'm pretty comfortable with that level. I don't always win, but I very rarely get crushed. For the first BtS game I think I'll drop the level to Warlord. That should allow me to fool around with the new features without AI beating me to them. I'm not afraid of picking up bad habits. I'm a pretty laid back player and bad habits will be fun.

I probably start at Deity and cheat significantly, so that I can experience almost all the changes in one quick game. Then I'll try an advanced start in whatever age I like best and try to win fair and square, probably on Warlord

Prince. I was playing Monarch and winning left and right until the improved AI kicked me down a notch, and I'm not going any further. I've won a lot of games recently on Prince...I should try to get a few more Monarch victories under my belt before I'm smashed by the new AI.

I'm a pretty casual player, although I like to think when playing, and I want the AI to stay challenging and keep up with me until the late Industrial Age (when the game usually ends--I rarely see the Modern Age, sometimes not even the Industrial Age).

I thought more people would play on settler for the first game, just so you can accomplish absolutly EVERYTHING in one game :P I'm going to do that, so I can have every wonder, research every tech, and play around a lot with Espionage.

To each their own. The game won't be as fun, I suppose, since it will be the easist win ever :P

That's more or less why I don't want to do it. I can handle a few losses here and there, as long as I learn something out of it.... :)

The problem is, if I played Settler the first game I wouldn't experience anything new because I'd have won long before the gunpowder age anyway. I want a challenge so I can get to the gunpowder age and experience some of the new features...

I'd hate playing on Settler, because the AI would pretty much sit around and do nothing. Part of the fun (for me) is competing with the AI for new stuff, and if the AI isn't spying on me, then it'll be boring.

Besides, I don't want everything in one game. I'm going to start playing, see where the map takes me, and do that again and again. I'll try for different new features in each round--maybe in one round I'll play for the new space race and found corporations. In another, I'll try out some of the new unique units. I'll just play as normally, and adjust my strategies to account for the new stuff as I come across it.

I play on a level I can win consistently (Prince), and then adjust from there. I haven't lost in my last dozen or so Prince games, so I'm going to move on up to Monarch. But, I have the BtS fever, so I'll wait to play a Prince round or two on BtS before moving around.
