this is not a HRE thread...

Not a Holy Roman Empire thread? Seriously?!

Of all the stupid creative decisions that Firaxis has made for this expansion, from the Native (now North?) Americans to the freaking Cristo Redenator as a wonder of the world, this one really has to take the cake.

According to the latest IGN preview, one of the 10 new civs in BTS is the Holy Roman Empire. I guess that Firaxis forgot that Germany is already in the game? Or perhaps worse, is Germany going to be removed from the game now that the HRE is in?

It is just stupid, stupid, stupid, beyond stupid to include the HRE when Germany is already in the game. So is Frederick the Great, who was technically a ruler during HRE times going to stay with Germany or will he be be moved to the HRE? Should I be surprised we didn't' also see Italy in the new expansion? Or Mexico? Or maybe Iran?

For those who are unfamillar with the HRE, you can can learn more about them at this wikipedia article. Although it did include small portions outside of modern Germany, there is no doubt that the essential character of this confederation was German. And it wasn't really a civilization anyway, it was just an artificial construct of the pope.

While I applaud Firaxis for finally adding Ethiopia and Khmer, they really have been monumentally braindead in some of their creative decisions lately.

Oh, and De Gaulle and Lincoln instead of a second Japanese or Spanish leader? Utterly shameful.

But seriously here folks, the Holy Roman Empire? The mind just boggles. I know there are some bright people working on the BTS project. How on earth it ever came so far as to having the HRE as a separate civ, i will never know.

Frankly, this decision infuriates me to no end. Although BtS may be fated to receive high review scores because of the sheer amount of new content they dump on the player, it will always be a zero with me just for the unbelievable braindead idiocy that has been shown in some of their creative decisions.

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh.

I would like to see Poland and Austria instead of the HRE and Native Americans, but hey, that's what mods are for. I'm not complaining. This will be an excellent expansion pack, and I will make it excellenter.

I see you've made your Holy Roman Empire thread today, Tronicoz. Yay!

I voted Native American Empire. I'm fine with Sioux, Iroquois, whatever, as civilizations, but grouping them all together? No. Why? I can't recall any time that most of the Native Americans were in a unified civilization. All the other civilizations in the game were pretty much unified at one time - India, Egypt, Inca, even the Holy Roman Empire had decent unification for short times (and was a recognized distinct entity by its neighbors). The Native Americans never had such unification, neither politically nor culturally.

As to the Holy Roman Empire, I still find it hard to believe they chose it over the likes of the Hittites, another SE Asian civ, Poland, Austria, the Maya, and even the Huns. The Holy Roman Empire had little real power for most of its history. At least the Huns, Austrias, Byzantines, etc. really did have a powerful influence.

Even leaving the HRE in the game, Barbarossa would've been a far more logical choice as leader - and his time was one of the few the HRE really did have power.

In case you hadn't guessed, HRE would've been my "second-worst" choice :)

Native American Empire. What it the American Empire then? Foreign?

Personnaly, I think I will just go to the XML and change the values I want. Like changing Native Americans by Sioux, or Iroquois, I dunno. But not because I don't like the name, just because I find Sioux much more cool :D

i agreed, HRE should not be in the game, but still this is not a annoying HRE thread! HRE is just a poll option in the poll!!!. like HRE is one of 10 civs in BTS

do you think BTS is a annoying HRE thread? :p

Byzantines and Maya are in BtS.

Thats it, I'm making a formal request to ban all HRE and Poland threads. Enough is enough.

me thinks thou doth care too much of nothing.

was thear ever unified polonisian empirer? or kingdom? or any thing?? thay seem like a colection of fractured native island tribs to mee.

They were no different to the celts. (except celts might have been closer related to each other)

Holy rome is at war with rome...
native america is at war with america...

:O! WORLD CHAOS!!

They were no different to the celts. (except celts might have been closer related to each other)

they did have small kingdoms too, like Hawaii and Tongo - similar to the Celtic situation. Hawaii, i think, became important agriculturally and to international trade - which was why the US loved to say "Hey, let us 'Help'"

Meep! Meep! is the worst. It takes the place of the worthy ACME civilization led by Wile E. Coyote.

Egads, man! How dare you suggest that we fix the problem ourselves instead of complaining about it! :mischief:

I'm doing the same thing, by the way. I'll just make my own little mod, and thank Firaxis for all its nice artwork. :)
