Except for my own MOD... the WW2 MOD, I love your MOD Shaitan.

How do you get the stars rating?

There's a "Rate This Thread" drop down menu at the bottom right of some threads (under the posts). I don't know what governs whether this shows up or not. Maybe post count or views I guess.

Don't know. :crazyeye: :crazyeye: Tough choices. I will have to be wishy-washy here.

The Mod that is currently on my system is the LWC one but since I have not tried them all, I can not say which is my favorite. My tastes have been limited.

One thing that i would be interested in knowing is this:

Which mod is the favorite of mod makers, if you can not vote for your own?

Rough question, sealman!

Garret's Scottish mod is what got me into modding in the first place. That was fun but needed so much more work that I was inspired to do it myself. Nobody's even heard of that one though and it's not on the poll.

The LWC mod has given me so many ideas it's not even funny. However, I don't play with it as I don't personally favor some of the changes for my games.

The Irish Mod by celtic_bhoy was pretty cool but had some balance issues that he's working on now.

The WW2 mod is what I'm trying to play with now. Once again I have been blown away by new mod possibilities by what GreyFox did here. The down side is I've been working on my mod so much I haven't played a game since I first checked this out.

So...if I can't vote for my own and had to vote for just one I'd pick the WW2 mod. I love the time period and the mod rocks.

People should use the file rating feature more often. The stars will show up when there are at least 2 votes.

The thread rating feature is only enable in the files forum, that's why you don't see the drop down rating menu in most of the forums. Anyone can rate files in the files forum.

A small correction... I didn't make that Fascist mod, Steven Strayer did. I just posted it for him. :)

My mod will be my favorite when its done, but it wont be for a long while...

The LWC mod is the best with more and better units and techs. What Firaxis slapped together is a disgrace.

The only problem is there has been some crashing with it in the Medieval Period.

While I generally (if secretly) agree with Zouave, I have to disagree about the best mod. Mind you, I've only played 2 so far - Plutarck's LWC and Dreifels' "final solution to corruption-by-distance" so I can only comment on these two.

Firstly, both mods improve the game-play over the plain vanilla Civ3 (not hard to do given how half-baked it is).

LWC does bring in lots of new units and buildings. Many people may like this added realism. I find it distracting and over-complicated, my main criticism. The modified tech tree looks more like a spider's web than a tree. Many of the buildings don't have icons on the menu and they appear at the bottom of the menu instead of amongst the other buildings (easy to overlook). Also there are sometimes odd crashes in later stages of the game.

Now that I've played Dreifels' mod, I much prefer it - simple and effective. Does a brilliant job of correcting corruption-by-distance (even on multiple continents) and the AI's tendency to swarm the map with those annoying size-1 towns on every available tile. These were my 2 main gripes with the official versions of Civ3. Dreifel has done some good things with the Wonders pop-up screen and a few other niceties with the tile graphics too.

For those odd people who actually like corruption, they can still play Dreifels' mod and just choose not to build any "state palaces" (effectively just extra Forbidden Palaces). Corruption will be as bad as you like it.

And finally, the mod did not cause any civ3.exe crashes, at least in my experience. I was playing under Patch 1.17f by the way.

I didn't really like the high corruption level in the Game either, but after some games I realized that that function is there to Make LARGE empires not so much better then OPTUMUM empires.

And makes you concentrate on building cities close to your core. I build my cities, like 5-6 tiles from my capital in my first game, no matter the Size of the Map. Now I build em closer, getting alot of uncurrupted cities, and many more Medium uncorrupted. And with the Forbidden Palace you have all you need to play the game and win. All the Corrupted cities are only for score and should concentrate on growing and making HAPPY citizens and Specialists, no UNHAPPY in those... hurts your score... anyway... it was corruption, not score we were talking about.

Well you can build even in those Corrupted cities... I usually Rush a building or two, three with the Whip, and then all the improvements the city needs with Money Hurrying, later when I get Monarchy, Republic or Democracy.

If you play the original game as it is intended to be played. You will learn more, and get a hole lot more fun then Playing the EASY way...

I've tried 4 of the listed mods and a couple that aren't.

I like the LWC mod by Plutarck the best. It adds a lot more realism to the game. I'm not into graphics as much as most people seem to be so the occasional messed up graphics has not been a factor for me. (Comes from my Koei gaming days :) )

I could only put 20 into the poll so I took the top 20 based on the thread ratings. Anything with 3 or more stars at the start of the poll made it into the poll.
