What is your playing style?

To start off, this is my first post :D. I am quite an experienced Civilization 5 player, but have not defeated the most difficult difficulty. Naturally, I yearn to beat that difficulty, but know that my playing style is not going to achieve that. I want to see what your playing style is. Everyone has one.

My playing style is expansion. I spam cities to gain lands before other civilizations do, and then spam workers which develop the cities to the max and build dozens of road networks. To carve up my perfect civilization, I destroy civilizations around me. I make sure my civilization is totally secure, and then win a Scientific Victory.

What is your playing style?

I usally play culture in civilization 5 I only build 3 cities with high population and a lot o specialist.

Build wonders and build my cities the buildings they need. Selling and trading with other civilization who are friendly towards me.

Usally someone tries to envade but fails because of my good defence.
I usally have a high advanced promoted army not big but strong.

The only exception on this rule is if I am playing japan then I conquered the pangeau map in the medieval era with my samurai's

I normally play a Culture/Tech game. I have yet to win Deity without a major advantage (tiny islands/archipelago I have won Deity on because I dont directly have to border an AI). One of my favorite wins was on Immortal one City Challenge winning with Science as Siam Science and another time with Culture (forget which Civ).

I like to bait the AI lately. Been playing on Emporer and try to annoy my neighbors enough to keep them DOWing me through early/mid game. Will normally take one of them out and use the rest for a series of lucrative peace settlements.

Once I get to Artillery I stomp.

After a couple of unsuccessful games when I first started where I tried the kind of peaceful game I knew from CIV I went for playing the game like a complete a'hole, if an AI builds a wonder or denounces me I'll most likely be stomping their faces very soon, once you've conquered about 2 civs completely you've already won most of the time, sure I'll occasionaly finish it off with a cultural or science VC, but the game has been decided long before then and continuing is generally more out of hatred, a desire to see X impudent groveling before me after having dealt for most of the game with their irrational hatred of me.

The thing is, the AI is programmed to act like a massive, pulsating duck, if you don't play in kind it will just walk over you and fork you any opportunity it can. So always be the first to start forking.

I have eliminated Civs just because after leaving them one city they keep popping up with taunts. (Napoleon is particularly annoying)

My playstyle is pretty agressive. I usually don't build many cities of my own (max 3 or 4) but insteads I tend to occupy any civs nearby as early as possible to secure a good scientific output compared to the boosted AI. After that I either conquer all the other civs or go for a scientific victory.

I always disable diplomatic victory option in the advanced setup since I find it very boring. I've done a few cultural victories in OCC games but I tend to think that it is much easier (and more fun to me too) to win by other means in non OCC games.

Well, after playing about 290 hours since release, it is safe to say that I'm still a noob.

I don't reload maps, and I never move my starting settler (I just hope the computer is kind to me!).

I usually begin with a monument to get some early culture. After that... Well, I never think of a strategy and stick to it, so...

Maybe that's why I suck.

I like playing 2 different play styles. I usually alternate games between pure warmonger from the start and playing small peaceful games.

I like peaceful games because they usually go faster because of not having to move dozens of units each turn and occasionally you may get declared on or need to take out an A.I to secure a win. I find this style is when I'm Wonder-whoring and focusing on population and keeping the empire in the double digit happiness. This type of play is very fun and I find it's good practice at building the infrastructure of you empires. But, I usually get fatigued of just clicking through turn after turn, and when I beat the game with either Science, Culture, Or Diplo Victory I usually play my next game as a warmonger.

I find the peaceful style to get boring after a bit and need to release the inner warmonger. When I play the aggressive style I usually rush to Bronze working and Archery right away and build an army of Spearmen and Archers and try and take out the first A.I I encounter in the first 50 turns. And then just continue to focus on War tech the whole game and go for a Dom. Victory ASAP. This is a super fun play style, especially with 1UpT, but I find after a game like this I get a little fatigued from moving so many individual units each turn and play the next game peaceful again.

I can beat a warmonger game on any difficulty, though I usually play on King because I find it the most fun not having to fight against all those bonuses. The highest I've ever beat any of the other Victories is Emperor and that was just twice, one science and one culture. But the same thing, I find it most fun to play on King because that's where I have the most fun and find its most balanced for my skill. I have beat Deity a handful of times using a war tactic on small and tiny maps on Epic length, but have a hard time winning consistently and find the play more frustrating than fun.

Basically I like Peaceful games for fun but also practice. And warmonger games for fun and Excitement.

I like to build as many citys as I can and show off my strong army and navel to the world.
Anyone mess with me get a fat NUKE in the post from me :)

Every civ will respect me and my orders!!! :D

You should try emperor more often the city states can actually help you in war at that difficulty LV

Looking at qec's post, I think I should try that. UTTER warmonger. I have never tried going *completely* into warring other Civilizations.

My favourite style : warmongering AIs and humans.
My favourite strategy : 4 cities sword rush.

I always play on complete kill with a dominance victory, Random leader, huge map 12 civs and 15 city states, in the begging i try to find the best place in the starting area, usually near a river, on stone or at the coast, i explore the area and try to find a "Border" and set up towns so i can stop other civ advancement and save land for my self, i always get the free worker and settler and then get 1 polices into honor and start farming barbarians for culture and unit exp. i then just wait for the first civ to start denouncing me and then attack me, usually by then i have around 3 archers level 6-10 and 4 warriors 3-6 and easily farm they're towns for more exp for my units and usually the units there is all i need to take over the rest of the map usually around medieval i would build a catapult or two.

Also, disable starting bids, No ruins, Marathon speed, save promotions and polices, Raging barbarians and random personality.

Do random personallities actually makes a difference in diplomacy ?

I'm usually playing on king or emperor, and with lots of luck managed to get wins on immortal and deity. Having too little time to play I tend to go for fast wins on tiny or small maps, most domination or cultural.
When playing for domination I prefer Tabarnak's 4 cities swordrush and sometimes an ultra early warrior rush when an AI capitol is nearby.

I am a largely ex-player; I tend to plod along and often lose focus which means AIs with a determined strategy and production and gold bonuses beat me.
