What is your steam ID?

CFC does have a group, two actually, but the management here doesn't seem to be proactive in advertising them for some reason. Just do a search in Steam for Civilization, and you will see them.

Seems like the kind of thing that should be mentioned more by the staff, then, given the impending explosion of CFC users on Steam.

(Got that, PieceOfMind? :goodjob: )

I realized I never mentioned my own Steam handle, which is DariusTriplet

How do you even get your "default URL"? Is SteamID the same thing as the account name?

Your default url to your account profile is what Steam gives you when you first register. What most of these people have done is go into thier profile settings and customized their URL to include their profile name. Nothing earth shattering, the only reason I've posted the info I did is that Steam lets players change their display name to just about anything, and in the soon to be common MP games you won't neccesarily know the real name of that person unless they let you add them as friends and then you can look up their profiles and do a little translation. This is actually the biggest thing I dislike about Steam is the difficultly in identifying players at times.( I can live with DLC and DRM)

At Civplayers we plan to engineer a mod after release that verifies players identity but hooking directly into the Steam API and using the Steam 64 bit ID that the API gives us to verify a player is who they say they are. And cross referencing this to the CivPlayers player database.

For anyone interested the Steam API does do quit a bit for programmers.

EDIT...
Think I found it. Steam --> Community tab --> View my profile
Then copy the url:
http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/<your number here>

EDIT2
For the benefit of Steam newbies like myself:p

Ah sorry I didn't realize you were just asking how to find your profile url in the Steam client app :-/

What information about your account is publicly available when you publish your steam ID? Does steam give you any options on privacy level?

EDIT...
From what I can tell, if one's profile is set to private, the only information visible to steam friends is the username (not account name) and avatar. Anyone know this to be wrong?

Private - Only you can view your profile page
Friends Only - Only viewable by your friends
Public - Viewable by anyone on the World-Wide Web

Those are the three settings, and you can choose what personal info (if any) you want to include.

Thanks for that. I found that you can edit the profile privacy setting at http://steamcommunity.com/id/<account name>/edit/settings.
When you say you can choose what personal info to include, do you mean you can choose what stuff to actually add?

I created a second account today so I could test this thing out, and I noticed that on the second account's "blotter" I could see several thing about the first account that should be hidden (because the first account was set to 'private') - things like recent achievements from various games. Is this because the profile wasn't set to private at the time those blotter messages were created? (I'm not 100% sure but I think it was set to private even then)

Apologies for being a bit off-topic by the way.

My page is here: steamcommunity.com/id/anandus

Is account-sharing allowed?

Technically not, since sharing an account is the same thing as sharing the games on the account, which is clearly against the Steam EULA. But either way you can't have the account logged in two places at the same time and play games. So sharing an account is of limited usefullness.

Did you link those profiles as "friends"?

Did you link those profiles as "friends"?

Yes, though I'm not entirely sure it works properly considering the new account hasn't purchased any games (it seems to be a requirement before you can add friends). Regardless, blotter information on a person with a hidden (from friends) profile should not be seen by anyone.
