What keeps you playing Civ IV?

I played Civ in my grandfathers computer when I was a baby. Played on chieftan and declared war on everyone, but I also picked up a lot of english. So I can give credit to civ for my second language.

And Civ 4 is the best game I´ve ever played. Civ 4 and Heroes 3, rest I play in playstation.

:crazyeye:

The number of mods available on this website keep bringing me back. RFC and it's mod mods alone has provided me with years of entertainment.

And when you want a back rub, we look up from our nail files and say "WHEOOHRN" :p

And all next week it's "You made an arrogant demand."

Don't let your GF hear that. Not unless you sleep with one eye open.

As a geek, I realised years ago that one can only date geeks. This means you end up with an inamorata who plays Civ. The only difficulty is peeling her away from the game long enough that I can play some Civ.

A nice and relaxing game. I played the modifications so far and just recently switched to Bts.
I hope firaxis makes a hardcore-fan-edition facelift of civ before I get bored with it.

Luckily I'm single right now :p: (This is the most time I'll ever have to play Civ so awesome timing :D ) but back then, she knew that Civ IV cannot be matched by anything :mischief:

And those are the only type of teen geeks you find. I keep my distance from those people, although you could argue that I'm one of 'em  (Civ is the only game I play, so does it still count? ;))

For myself, I love planning 20 or 30 moves ahead and then the satisfaction of executing the plan successfully (or not!)

Such as assembling huge amounts of tanks and bombers in cities that border with an enemy civ all the while positioning several transports of marines with aircraft carriers and accompanied battleships at the opposite end of the enemy civ and then arranging a simultaneous attack from both sides.

Hours of fun :wavey:

I go into spurts from time to time and play the heck out of Civ (was II, then III, and now in the past number of years IV).

Im a fan of video games having been a kid when they really hit the market in the 80s. Civ IV IMO is the best "video game ever". I always enjoyed and had patience for the Sim Games (pre 'The Sims'), Populous, Third World War (for the Sega CD), etc. Civs capture every aspect, and Civ IV is the best, most inclusive one of them all.

The Civ games always challenged me. I dont think I ever won a game on Civ II. III I was able to cruise to space on easier difficulties, but on IV along with my discovery of these forums, I am able to really refine my skill, build on new strategies, increase difficulties, play on an infinite number of maps, with different mixes of leaders that makes every game different, and also join in on community games. The replayability value of this game is second to none. It seems like even though I have played a lot, there is a lot more information I dont know than I know.

Im hoping Civ VI, if and when it comes out is back on track. If not, I am confident I have many years left with IV.

When I get bored of playing civ, I lurk (and sometimes post) in the forums and discover an awesome new game thread and learn about a cool new strategy/gambit that makes me want to try it right away; then after a while I become bored and go back to lurking, and so on...

It's how I get my kicks in the morning ;)

Now srsly I just play it on noble so I don't get too much of that super mega power play tactics employed every time (That changes if someone is to challange me). Now I really like to drink my coffee while deciding to nuke the world or not .... I seriously envy those "red button" guys ... so much power with just one press of a button .... ;)

Yeah, I don't bother looking at the power ratings or the score board, I already know I'm ages behind. It's the faint hope that I will catch up before 2050 that keeps me going . . .

But if you capitulate you can only leave once you've lost half of what you used to own ;)
That's why there are pre-vassal agreements, silly. :D

You'll never catch up. :p

On topic: Civ probably saved my life.
