What level are people playing???

I guess Monarch is where I bellong as it's the highest level I have won on. I have achieved every possible victory except space race at that level.

Emperor is more fun, it's challenging. I voted Diety because that's what I am playing at the moment.

I play cheiftan. I have played War Lord and Prince with some success, but I play for relaxation and like the slow long drawn out games. Some of my games have lasted a week or more. I always keep playing even after the time limit is over. It's hard to give up a world you've created.

Well, Chieftan doesn't give enough challenge, imo.

Diety. It's a 25% win ration right now. Bad start and you are cooked. Get caught in a war you are cooked. Get the wrong tribes to close to your start and you are cooked.

I guess you're right, hrmickey: make sure you've got the (almost) ideal starting location, or else things will go wrong... At least under Deity and Emperor. Under Regent it isn't really a disaster when you haven't got the ideal starting location, but things might get backwards further in the game...

I play regent, (and usually win sometime in the 1900's), then monarch (about 50/50 win/loss), and if I won, then I play emporer. I can win on emporer, but don't like to go to war too early and that can hurt me, bad.

I just jumped up to Monarch with the last GOTM- Russia. Needless to say I doubt I will go back to Regent

Which version are you playing in the Netherlands? English or German (or French)? Miss the weather in Best,NL . But Rotterdam is nice this time of year being on the zee.

Honestly, the difference between Emperor and Regent is so great that I can't see anyone who wins on Emperor, fail to win 100% of the time on Regent.

Well, everyone I know (including myself ) plays the English version.

After winning the game in every possible way at warlord I decided to move up to regent..the problem is that I'm getting my a** kicked...I don't know why..so I'm reading everything in the WAR ACADEMY

I play chieftain.
The reason is i only have access to civ3 at the weekend and even then its only on a VERY SLOW pc so a turn in the 1500s can take about half an hour! On a normal map.

Man, reverant, you have got to get a new computer! Long turns on standard sized maps means something there.

P.S. I just beat chieftain a month ago (regular game) and am wondering whether I should deal with Warlord or should I jump right to regent?

I did that! The best way to go! Beat a couple of cheftain games, got bored and jumped to regent. Boy, did that get rid of my boredom quickly... After a couple games, I got used to regent, and was able to easily win. Right now, I'm trying my hand at Emperor .
