Don't misunderstand, this isn't a complaint. In fact, part of me hopes expansion is rather wild and free, could be a nice change of pace.

In Civ3 you had corruption distance, in Civ4 you had per-city-per-city upkeep increases ( and civic cost increases as well, if memory serves. ) In Civ5 the whole happiness system limited expansion.

So what limits expansion in Civ6? Just space and enemies?

EDIT: I've been very busy with real life, so not as much time to digest all of this from Well of Souls and YouTube and Twitch and stuff.

we know settlers increase in cost and reduce pop by 1 each time.

What about stolen settlers ( confirmed to be a thing, apparently ) and, of course, conquest. If you can conquer it all is it just win-win? No unrest, no upkeep?

Increasing cost of settler/builder/districts, cities don't start with city attack

Verrrry interesting... so stuff just "ramps up" in cost as you go up the ladder?

My first impression, without time to reflect deeply on it, is very positive.

Not sure. I would imagine that stealing settlers would not increase cost. There is war weariness in conquered cities that can never be removed apparently so there is a limit there.

Enemies space yes.
But also increasing costs of settlers and districts.
Also there is an indirect increase cost for workers iirc. You need more and those also cost more. You also will likely be less efficient with amenities.
Finally settlers cost pop.

May have forgotten something but you get the idea.

Stuff are rather expensive to build in Civ VI and if you invest production into settlers you will have less left to invest in other stuff which may have been better then the settlers at that time.

cities are far harder to defend this time around, so expect even the AI, with it's bad manouvering skills, to take a few cities of a player who gets a bit too greedy. The same thing happened in civ 4 MP sometimes, an aggresive forward settle could easely change into a free expand for another player.
