What modmod do you prefer ??

I just finished my first two games in Orbis. The first was Mechanos and the second Scions.
It was an amazing experience. Similar to the experience I had with my first ever FFH game back in the day. I agree with unit 666 that Orbis feels more alive.
The espionage, the guilds, the revamped (and dare I say better) tech tree, the animal totems, a frickin steampunk faction... even the little pop ups when a great person is created... it all adds a lot of life and flair to the already amazing base mod.

My problem with FF is with the new factions. I love FF and had a great time playing games in it; a lot of very solid new mechanics. But I felt that the new factions, although plentiful, were a little bland. I hate saying this cause i know how much work and love has been put into them, but during a game, when I first meet the Chislev (for example) it`s not as exciting as first meeting the Calabim or the Lanun. I think the new leaders are not as enigmatic and imaginative as the base FFH ones.

In Orbis the new factions are solid, and are just as interesting as the base factions if not more.

Well, Chislev are close to common indians and Dural and Austrin are quite "normal" too (although with unique approaches) so they may seem a bit bland, but D'Tesh and Scions and Jotnar compensate this "lack of fantasy"; also I quite like the appearance of new "human"-like nations, mostly because I prefer not-too-magic-oriented fantasy in books.

Aren't D'Tesh only in FFPlus?

What do you mean with "human" in 'human-like nations'?

Eh, I meant Dural, Chislev and Austrin, they come along with Grigori and other nicely. I don't mind Orbis too, but I haven't played it for a while so it should be considerably more balanced/changed now than when I tried it for the first time.

I go orbis just because it feels more polished and vivid than the other modmods I tried, dark got darker.

I defenetly like the techtree better in orbis, puts more weight on choosing a direction in your teching. However theres a million and two things left to polish and make complete before these mods would feel finished.

If you liked learning Fall from heaven 2 and want to add even more depth, detail and mechanics to learn, you should download some of these mods to try out.

I do so love this thread, it shows quite nicely how willing to share the modding community is (since people continually post "I like mod X more than Mod Y because it has feature Z" without realizing that mod Y was the one who wrote Z, and X imported it ;))

a very unPC analogy,

Spoiler Xienwolf is not going to like this post :
FF is a whore and Orbis is very sophisticated person, more people will take the former over the later, but I find the latter more fun than the former,
PS I'm an Uppity Urban snob who like fine things like art, wine, and elegant suits

I didn't know Patrick Bateman was into FFH.

can't say im surprised.

:mischief:
no if you will excuse me you incompetent distasteful fellow, I have whores and assholes to kill :satan:

I'm still relatively new to all this but I've been playing a lot of Orbis which I like, especially the split barbarians and the different way of handling priests. But mostly I'm just impressed by how many new features and ways to play I keep finding in base FFH. There are so many unique civs and combined with different religions and different parts of the tech tree it just seems like you never get the same game twice.

P.S. I decided not to make a version of this with a pole since this thread seems to be going to well and it would just be too much on the same topic.

i ve been playing orbis for a year and roughly 2 weeks ago switched over to FF(Plus) and think i ll stay with that. Orbis is fantastic but for -MY- liking FF+ is even more fantastic.

I dont really care much for any new race aside from the scions (which are in both mods), whether its from FF or Orbis but mainly like those mods for fleshing out existing factions (doviello in base FFH are very boring, doviello in orbis are a lot more interesting and doviello in FF+ are simply amazing etc. ) to make them more unique. too bad the trend seems to be making more and more new civs while some oldies still feel pretty boring (grigori) or have a lot of potential for even more uniqueness.

but i also really enjoy gameplay additions such as corporations (orbis is a bit more interesting here than FF(+) s corporations), a new great commander system (FF), ranged combat (both), master buildings/equipment (FF), knightly orders (orbis) etc. etc.

only thing i m missing right now is someone making magic more interesting (the RLD mod for FF has some good ideas that i hope will make it into FF(+) or orbis)

I believe FFPlus is indeed merging RLD in :)
Not planned for now for Orbis. In fact, I recently ranted about too much merging and not enough 'homemade' stuff :p
