I'm just getting back into ciV after a hiatus. I love the most recent updates.

I'd love to hear from people here about your favorite mods and generally how they change the game for you.

(also, I've comments suggesting that the modding community will be able to x, y, or z after the 'source code is made available.' If someone wants to explain how current mods are limitted due to lack of access of the internal workings of the game, that woudl be interesting . . . just saying).

Thanks in advance for the all the great Mod advice! As much as I'd like to, I just don't have the time to play them all, so it would be great to skip to the best.

you can do a lot more things in Lua than people can think of, but the main problem is to adapt the AI to what you want to do, without the DLL access it's nearly impossible... (not that it will easy to do with the DLL, but at least minimal control could be done then)

As for the mods I use, the only one I can't make a game without is the CS diplo mod. (And R.E.D., but this one only visual)

But in fact must of my play time is used by testing my own mods :D

A shame this topic hasn't had more interest yet. I'm running vanilla at the moment and was sort of scouting this as a rough guide to anything worth looking at...

CivWillard is an indispenable mod IMO. It modified the UI to show when all trade agreements are about to expire, among other things. It saves from having to go 3 levels into the dipolmacy screen to get info on RA's, resourse trades, treaties, etc. I believe it might have also showed your available luxury resources at the top of the screen just like the strategic resources if i'm not mistaken. Keep in mind that none of the Steam acheivements work is using modded games, AFAIK.

Good tip on the achievements.

Does CivWillard change the gameplay at all? or just interface (not that interface changes can't be awesome)?

Thanks for responding!

InfoAddict. gives you all the information about each civ in the game; their relations and attitudes towards you and other civs, their science, culture and gold output, and their military strength

I'm using Info Addict and R.E.D units modpack (some ethnic units for civs + realistic rescale). Thal's balance makes many changes that ceased to suit my taste well, but maybe I need to reconsider this - I'll give it a shot soon. Games with vanilla stats and mechanics are really fine for me now, after all the patches.

Building Made Fun is good for folks who want a larger choice of buildings, I use that one sometimes. For a real change of pace try Civilization Nights, it changes the game completly.
