If you like funk and disco, and you subscribe to Spotify, I recommend looking up some playlists under the username amanita313. Forget 'deep cuts', some of these are from the Marianas Trench. I've been listening to "Rare '70s Funk" and "'80s Avant Disco", but she (she? I'm assuming it's a she) has a [honk]-ton of playlists. I haven't even scratched the surface. I think she must be European, 'cause there's like one whole playlist of Polish disco.
"Douala by Night" (1977) by J.M. Tim & Foty, a Cameroonian duo who had some success in France. (Douala is a city in Cameroon.)
"Fire In My Heart" (1984) by Escape From New York, a UK band that I can't find a lot of information on. It looks like they released two songs and called it. If you Google them, you'll find a bunch of stuff that isn't them, including a band called Escape to New York.
Juice Newton's version from 1981 is the one I remember. Wikipedia says it was originally offered to Connie Francis before Evie Sands took it, but she turned it down because she thought it was "too risqué."
That's the one I remember as well. I had a big crush on Juice Newton back in the day. Didn't know Connie Francis turned down the song but her reasoning made sense for that time period. LOL
