the music is awsom, i just love it
some times i just run the game in the menu and let the music paly
while i browse civilopedia
its soo cool
i think the sound track in this game is one of the best i have ever seen in any game.
my fave is the intro, some moder era songs and medivel (that is just great, the Gregorian Chant is awson)
well the movie itself was not that bad, could use better rezalution, looks realy pixily on my screen ( i play at 1600-1200 but the movie runs on 1024-768*) but the idea is not that bad,
i think i saw it 2 times, i guess if u see it too many times u beggin to notice bad things in it

thats just my 2 gold

The music rocks...

The opening vidoe has it's moments...I like the very first part of the opening in space...the battle scene is okay, but it really becomes disjointed when it goes to the crowning...technically it is good animation work, but lacks direction and seems to lose the overall theme of the game somewhere in it's descent from space.

Overall low average - the music brings it up. Not a movie I'd re-watch over again.

i liked it. good epic feel and such. and besides.....how many times do you really wanna watch an intro movie? i watch it once, then delete it from my hdd. imho, the dev time to make some awesome, jaw-dropping, awe-inspiring intro is dev time that couldve made the game better. in other words, a waste.

I thought the direction was pretty good, and was particularly well timed. However, the actual graphics were poor and this detracted quite a lot from it.

There is a movie? I thought it was an intro-slideshow.
The intro before the main menu; not the intro before a game.

I thought the movie was good, but it didn't seem to have anything to do with the game.
My gf and I watched it together for the first time, and we had essentially the same response: "Ooh, that was pretty cool. What game is this again?". It would be more suited to Age of Empires than Civ, in my opinion.

While a little disjointed, it is definately an improvement over Civ III (that intro had me yawning).

I woud like to have seen the Civ IV intro go longer and further through the spans of time.

It was poorly made and looked like crap, seriously. Syndicate's intro movie, which was made in 1994, looked about ten times better than the Civ4 one. The music was good yes, but it just looked horrible.

What's the story with that cheesy slideshow before the start of a new game? While I don't feel the beginning movie is anything wonderful, I find the start of the game movie to just suck eggs. There are a hundred better ways to do that, and on top of that it doesn't even really make logical sense.

What's this slideshow people keep referring to? I don't get a slideshow... Is this something special for the American release, perhaps?

The 'cheesy slideshow' is what you used to see while civ1 was initialising a new game. It took about 5 mins to get the game set up on my old Atari ST, and that was what you got to watch while it did.

Ah, that one. Being one of the veterans, I love it. Obviously, if one is a kid and never played the original, I can see how it's lost on one.

I loved the slideshow too, since I used to play the first Civilization game, and got really enthusiastic by hearing the music.

I also like the new intro, especially for the music.

I liked the CIV3 intro better. It had a very witty way of picturing the sheer amazement in the face of the achievements and developments of civilization, whereas the CIV4 movie is pretty much your ACME "You are king and gotta rule, involving lots of battles" movie, better suited to the AoE series.

The intro movie is passable, but nothing more. Aside from the space view at the start it's a fairly generic strategy game intro. It doesn't bother me for the simple reason I'm never going to watch it more than once. Unless a game has back story that needs to be explained at the start the intro is somewhat superfluous. The graphics don't seem particularly great quality compared to the Civ 3 intro, which was rather better.

The slideshow harks back to the old Civ 1 start up, though they could have done it rather better as only the first few slides are likely to be shown when starting up the game.

The intro was a great disappointment to me. It felt too stagnant, and as such rather pointless. Then again, it's not a whole big deal. It's just an intro movie - although not a good one at that.

7/8 (Excellent) - just because it it is repetitive with time. I still get a feel, that now I will rule a nation.

I didn't think it was too good. I wanted to click out of it before I'd seen it fully and I've never watched it again - though that might've been because I want to use the game.

Some intro movies (IMO, the Dawn of War intro movie was the best ever - though they hired out a 3D production studio for a month to do it) you can watch several times - even, dare I say it, every time the game loads. This one took too long, didn't seem to have a purpose, and wasn't even that pretty.

But I don't get games for the intro movies. I wouldn't have really minded if there wasn't one at all.

I give 6/8 for Civ IV intro movie. OK animation work but nothing that I would remember for a longer time. Have to agree with Great Apple that WH40K Dawn of War intro is probably the best ever. Had to watch that several times just to get pumped up for the game. Talk about the most macho intro movie ever! :ar15:

It's good (7/8) but the graphics could be better. Why do intro movies (for any game) have such crappy graphics?

The intro movie is excellent. Mostly because of the state I was in when I first saw it, having just bought the game. Btw it's 9 days ago, it was friday december 2, around 14:30. Excellent.
