I just hit the Idustrial era as the Ottomans, i already had my golden age, and need to decide a course of action. But i am a bit lost, first, a bit of background.

About 30 turns ago i ended a war with america to take a beach head. I started on a small island, and made a rather large navy and did a mass exodus of about 20 settlers, 40 spearmen (did not have iron). As soon as i landed i settled (to push borders back) and began pumping out rax and knights. I ended up taking a small beachhead and getting iron, HOORAY! SO i upgraded to pikes and made peace.

Now the problem, Azteks to the north fo my beach head have the SOLE source of saltpeter on the map. I already had my golden age, and just got riflemen. Do i really need SIpathi? I currently have a crap laod of knights and enough gold to upgrade them. But is it worth it? The aztecs are similar in size to me, and they are 1 tech behind.

I know that if i go to war america will join in the beating, and they will probably bring the tiny french into it. The most i could do before i begin to lose the war is to grab the salt peter, but with Rifles avalible, and marines and tanks in the not so distant future, do i really NEED the saltpeter?

First of all, what version of civ is this (No expansions, PtW, or Conquests?)

Second, if you have a screenshot or a save, that would come in handy. :)

Saltpeter is only useful in the middle to late medieval era. Other than that, once you get artillery and infantry, it's useless. Sipahi are good units before tanks. Three move and 8 attack can be very deadly in a quick war. However, since you don't currently have saltpeter and there is only one source of saltpeter, it would be hard to gain it. Landing on a new territory with Knights against Musketman / Rifleman, it would be hard to get it, and its bonus would be short lived.

I would say no, you don't need the saltpeter.

And a save. C3C v1.0

The Aztecs are defending with spearmen?
Why not take the opportunity to get what
you want? Those 33 units will get useless
soon,especially those knights.

I don't see why you need to attack at all. Plop a settler down right beside the saltpeter, rush a bunch of culture there, and it should be yours before too long.

I thought about the setller thing, the problem was the "Military Outpost" can acualy be a productive city. Ploppping another one down would only infring on its growth.

I ended up holding off and researched steam power, found a spot with saltpeter, coal, and iron in the same radius. MAde RR upgraded to sip's and then wiped out the azteks and the americans. Now i got a huge emper instead of a beach head.
