What sort of witchcraft do you use to get past those strings of horrible world spawns?

I'm assuming I'm not the only one who has experienced a sudden string of world spawns in Civ VI that are just horrible.. Squeezed in between the sea and a mountain range.. Spawned on a tiny strip of grassland between tundra and desert. City states to my north and east, the sea to the south and Gorgo straight west. Every new game just creates more lousiness.

I'm curious to know whether you know of any black magic or unholy rituals to get rid of those streaks..
Do I need to sacrifice a beloved pet? Or maybe a limb? Are there any demons or elder gods willing to take my immortal soul in exchange for a river location with a bit of horse?

It is very simple and no magic. Take the first start you get. By re-rolling you reject the world RNGesus offers to you, and you offend Them. This also brings bad rngkarma. In the end you just don't know any more what it was you wanted and a lot of time is wasted on re-rolling instead of using it on fruitful playing.
By giving you a seemingly horrible start RNGesus tests you, to see if you are worthy of being gifted a legendary start some other time.

I love awful starts! Civ VI so much easier than previous iterations of the franchise that I really appreciate the extra challenge. I don't like to set game-y challenges for myself (win with a science victory before turn 250 or something), but overcoming a terrible starting location feels more natural.

I only reroll if the spawn I get gives me nothing that relates to the Civ's abilities. Like Inca or Russia on flat desert with no mountains. I don't see the fun of re-rolling until I get a turn 1 victory.
Well the best Russia game I ever played was with the Desert Folklore pantheon.
Usually I don't. First time I played Maori I decided to restart after searching forever for a good location.

I usually don't reroll, unless the start is truly horrible, like no production whatsoever or a snow start. I might reroll if I'm playing with a Civ that is map reliant, like Hungary, if I get a start that doesn't allow me to use their abilities, since it isn't fun to be unable to take advantage of the Civ you're playing. Any other start I just go with it. The game is already easy enough as it is, I don't feel like I need perfect starts. I also don't want to fall into this trap of rerolling excessively, which would kill my enjoyment and just make me avoid Civ entirely.

Same here. I pretty much only reroll if I roll a civ that I've already played recently (and not then if it's one I especially like) since I always select random civs unless trying a newly-released one for the first time.

According to the map generator, our great civilizations all started on a small strip of fertile land surrounded by tundra and deserts. Genghis Khan agrees!
