What to do when it's too crowded?

Turn some of your citizens into specialists that aren't making food.

Or use the governor's button (the one on the bottom right corner) to make the city stop growing.
Notice:
1) you should do it only when your unhappy faces equal the happy ones, as earlier it will stop your city growth as well
2) it will fill up your corn-box to the very end, yet it will not create a new citizen

Priest, I tried that, but it said my city was starving. I've been messing with the city options for about 15 minutes, but can't figure it out.

seriously though if you don't have one, get one and build a temple. there's also other building that'll increase happiness.

Select the "Use Condoms" button on the bottom right, that will stop population growth (and also help with STDs...)
