What to expect in the PTW editor

I am exited about Play the World, especially for the editor. In the press release it said that full scenario support will be included, including city and unit placement on your custom maps.

Should we expect more cool things from the PTW editor?

However, for the fun I could get from it, I'll buy it. :D

New leaders, new civs... The ONLY thing that would make the game PERFECT is if they'd have different looking cities & houses. Even Civ2 did that!

I look forward to the WW2 scenarios, though. I bet someone can make another Romance of the Three Kingdoms scenario too, which was a helluva lot of fun.

I don't have the patience to go all out with my scenario making, but I sure like the cheat mode and map editors...

Not that I like to cheat all day.

How many people are going to bother with PTW if this isn't added to the original? Requiring the expansion in order to make (and by extension, play) scenarios is going to cripple the mod and scenario communities (although, in the case of the scenario community, you can't cripple something THAT DOESN'T EXIST). So, if they require purchasing the expansion in order to make scenarios, that's a big F*CK YOU to scenario makers, courtesy Firaxis Games.

Good point. Firaxis is just trying to STEAL our money from us! EVIL!:aargh3:

But I'm still gonna buy it.:D This guy is making me do it--->:satan:

Why all the fuss about "a scenario editor (or multiplayer) should have been included in the release"? Who says it should have been included? Who says that multiplayer should have been included? Was there a press release that stated this?

The first Civ 2 scenario pack included editor improvements, iirc.

Civ 2 was released without multiplayer support until Civ 2 Gold.

So how is Civ 3 any different in this regard?

In most cases, MOST cases... What a company does it's last year sets the standard for the current year. Civ3, when it was first released, was WORSE than civ2. Right now, I'd say they're both equal in terms of fun and enjoyment. Only when Civ3 allows full customization, scenario-making, starting point locations & multiplayer will it be BETTER. I don't usually play multiplayer anyhow.

Hey ya know this thread is supposed to be about new stuff in the editor. But this does not by any means destroy my belief that Firaxis uses clever money-snatching strategies for selling their products.

My apologies. What I meant to say is that I hope to see a technology tree editor.

No harm done, Dralix.

What I am looking forward to most is the ability to make actual scenarios. I also think you should be able to set each civ's gold and gpt amount, how many techs they know, city sizes, improvements, and what the city is building.

I expect alot of people will be posting their Civ III scenarios on the forum once PTW comes out.:D

None of you have any idea what's going to be in the expansion regarding scenario capabilities, so quit acting like it. And while you're at it, stop encouraging Firaxis to make us pay for said abilities, you morons.

Hey I was just trying to post a friendly thread, not make people mad.:(

Well it seems there are plenty of people here quite willing to buy the expansion for no other reason than to be able to make scenarios. This in spite of the fact that Firaxis has been dropping hints for 5 months now that scenario building is "just around the corner," and that all the prerelease info gave us the idea that we'd be able to do it from the start (without saying so explicitly of course).

In the end, it's all up to Infogrammes. If they believe requiring the expansion for scenario capability will be a major driver of sales, we'll definitely have to pay for it. Everyone who's posted in this thread, with the exception of myself, seems to believe we will have to pay for scenario capability. What is pissing me off, is that no one seems to mind.

Firaxis are cheating weirdos that make you buy the XP just to get scenario capability. I'm startled there are people that greedy out there. They could have spent more time on the original release so the editor would already include snenario support. If they had only done that, it would have saved us about, say, FORTY BUCKS!

Well we got screwed. ON the cover it doesnt say no multi player. Also u would except scenario with it. Well i wasnt to upset it didnt come with it. THought it would come in a patch. Its not i have to pay for scenario and multi player. Which i dont care what u say its comes with just about every other game out there. What a rip

Hey, no need for name calling.

I will be one of the mindless drones going out and buying PTW but as I have said before I will be much more mindful of other Infogrames' releases. I would like to see a ROTK scenario......that is one I wouldn't mind helping to make.

I am buying PTW simply because I would rather have scenario capibility than no scenario capability. But I would be happier if they included most of the stuff in the original release, just to make it a more successful title than Civ II. But no, they had to make an expansion pack so we can needlessly waste our money on the product. Yet, I'm still gonna buy it so I can whip my sister's butt while playing multiplayer. (I have two computers, and my sis usually plays the French. )

Ok, now I'm starting to wonder - has it been confirmed that the expansion and only the expansion will have scenario capabilities? I know it's been confirmed in the press release that the expansion will have scenario capabilities, but this doesn't necessarily mean that the original version will not. Has there been a statement that confirming that scenario capabilities will be available only with the expansion or not?

i will buy ptw just for the scenarios
and it will be not cheap but i get almost every week50euro
thx that i fix computorproblems:lol: :goodjob: :D  :)
and im only 14!

It definitely is possible that mp and scenario building will be added in a soon to be released patch of civ3 though I'm not too optimistic that that is going to happen.

Maybe allowing us to add event scripts would be good...

They could also throw in a graphics editor to edit the animations... :crazyeye:

It would also be really cool  if they allow us to ADD in civs, techs and such instead of just renaming and editing them...

All that's all I can think of right now and will wait eager for PTW. :D cherio
