What will be after 1.2.5

@stealth_nsk:
I play a mix of SP and MP, the latter mostly with my son.

And in MP the problem with the air units is that you do not need to be very far behind in tech. But once the enemy has researched Flight while you have not, you are very vulnerable. All he has to do is to insta-buy a squadron commander and a couple of bombers and he can carpet bomb your key units or buildings from afar. For example, he can directly hit your key commanders, thereby weakening your other units because they no longer have their bonuses form the commander.

If he plays this well, you will not be able to catch up with your own air units. Because your fighters must be in range to intercept his bombers, your own aerodrome or squadron commander must be close enough to the front line. Once he spots this, he can just carpet bomb your aerodrome or squadron commander and stop you from catching up. And so long as your aerodrome is pillaged, you can not build any air units, even if you still have some squadron commanders. In MP this can become very frustrating.

So I think the game misses ground bases AA units, that you can buidl without an aerodrome and will deal damage to bombers, so they are at least worn down a bit do give you some breathing room.

I could see Commanders getting AA capability. (so the use of early airpower is to pick off the regular units…which takes more time and isn’t as damaging.)

I think this will not solve the biggest problem, which in my opinion is that killing a high level commander is so rewarding, that it is even worth sacrificing a couple of bombers to take him out. Lost Bombers are quicker and cheaper to replace, while losing a highly promoted commander is a heavy loss for your enemy.

Even if the commander had some AA capabiltiy, if you can kill him, the attack is very likely worth it in most cases.

I like the idea of commanders, that you can specialize them for specific purposes with their promotions. But the Army commander becomes mostly useless in the Modern Age against any human player which has unlocked bombers und ground attack aircraft. He will just take out your key commanders and eliminate any benefit they give.

Well the amount of Commander “self defense AA” could be increased so that attacking a Commander directly cost say 5 bombers, 15 bombers, or 50 bombers on average. At some point there it is balanced.

This is an interesting suggestion that has been recently 'Seen' by the devs (what increases the chances of implementation in the future). It could add some sense of continuity after the civilization switch on age-transition.

Besides, we could expect some fresh info on game development by the end of the month.

In light of last week's survey, I think they are assessing the results and finalizing some plans. So we probably won't see an official indication of direction until the next patch, probably late this month at the earliest.

Keeping buildings in the architectural style of the civilization that built them is directly tied to their design philosophy of history built in layers. And yes, it would be a very welcome step toward a stronger sense of immersion.

Do you think there will be any new features for the game this month? When will they reveal something?

I'd expect the patch next week, based on previous timing. So it's too early for any reveals
I'll wager they are recording the videos this week.

But we still do not know for sure that there will be a patch this month, or do we? Didn't they announce sometime during summer that they want to slow down the frequency of patches now to focus on more in-depth changes to game mechanics? I remember reading something like that in one of the developer notes and to me it implied that they may not release a new patch every month now.

So even if a patch is coming next week, it might not necessarily be a big one.

I dont remember about this but I'm afraid that from now on the patches will not be monthly, although there is still a lot of work to be done.

Now that I think about it, I can also not find it. But I still remember someone implying this, maybe it was a comment posted by someone on the Discord channel.

But I guess it is not unreasonable that at some point the frequency of updates will be slower, if the focus now is indeed on bigger chances. That of course does not rule out smaller bug-fixing patches in the meantime. But I honestly don't think that there will be an update similar in scope to 1.2.5 every month.

I am also wondering when the next wave of DLCs will be announced, because I am pretty sure that they still have several of those planned before any big expansion, just like they did with Civ VI. I would be surprised if there is no new DLC announced before christmas.

I'm not aware of such an announcement - only communication was dialed back at some point from "this week in civ" to "this month in civ" (and that shift was mentioned in that format). And I noticed -without reading a particular announcement- that the communication for the last updates started later than before (e.g. no more "check-in"-named news quite a time before the release anymore - now info seems to start earliest one week before an update actually releases)

That would be really cool for immersion, it really is so odd how you previously build buildings just, change, because new civ. it would also help a lot in finding areas to overbuild at a glance.
