What will be after 1.2.5

Do you think they'll release something new next week related to the December update? I know, from the response to a ticket, that 1.3.1 is supposed to be released, definitely close to the release of the second part of the DLC. I wonder if it will bring any other gameplay updates.
December update is likely to come out closer to the end of December, so it's month away from now. I don't think we'll get any additional info soon, but clearly the patch will include some further improvements.

So do you think this month nothing will be release? Is the second part of dlc expected for the end of december?

People will probably be on holiday at the end of December so I think its more likely to be between early to mid December. It might be a very light update though with the main thing being the second half od Tides of Power

Firaxis said that they lower frequency of releases, so yep, I wouldn't expect patch before second part of DLC.

Previous Civ games often released DLCs around December 15-20, aligning them with Christmas sales. I expect Civ7 to do the same.

It sounds as if, if there is anything before new year, it'll be quite small. They are certainly doing expectation management on the civ discord.

It's a bit of a shame, I've had extremely limited desire to play Civ7 this month. But the devs deseeve a holiday.

My hope is that the 2nd half of tides isn't too gimmicky. Tonga and pirates were just too themed around a single gimmick for me, and don't really make me want to do multiple games with them. .. Or even a single one with the pirates. That said, with Iceland and Ottomans appearing in later eras it'a gonna be an uphill struggle for them to be rewarding from the outset.

so don't expect any news soon.

I hope the changes to legacy paths and victories will be made by the end of January. I'm very curious, and I also believe it's essential to improve the overall Civ 7 gaming experience.

I wouldn't say Tonga is the same Gimmick, Carthage fits pirates much better. To me the problem is that I'm not really onboard with pirates and Tonga is too imbalanced.

What I expect from next patch is some balance iteration (including putting Tonga in line) and "Islands" map to bring Voronoi generation there. I tried playing old "Archipelago" map recently and boxed areas aren't fun anymore. Those two things alone would bring fun to the pirate content. And, of course, if there will be more improvements, I'll be grateful.

They won't be. The Firaxis Feature Workshop doesn't start until some time in January. They aren't going to have both tested and ready within a few weeks. I wouldn't expect any of those changes before March at the earliest.

I don't even think it's a guarantee the Workshop happens in January, afaik they said it'll just happen early 2026.

Different gimmicks, but both feel like they are themed around gimmicks. Civ is no stranger to gimmicky civs (e.g. Maori & Babylon in 6, Venice in 5). But I'd say a surprising amount of the DLC civs for 7 feel quite gimmicky to me. Even when I like the gimmick (Assyria & Carthage as examples) it feels like replayability takes a hit. Like now I have played Tonga, I don't know how much I want to play them again even though they were fun. The DLC civs often feel to me like they are based on "break rule X" and don't have as much variety as the core civs.

And given that this is CivFanatics... Disclaimer time! Feeling gimmicky is a very subjective statement I know, so I doubt a conversation about whether something is or isn't a gimmicky civ is going to go nowhere and is almost entirely down to personal taste.

I draw a distinction between "one trick ponies" which have only one intended way of playing (like Assyria) and those which feel special, but has different ways of playing them, like Maya or Greece. Like sure, you probably befriend more city-states as Greece and have higher production settlements as Maya, but they don't restrict gameplay.
