Well, the title says it all.

Civ4 is arriving next week. As most of you have probably noticed from the previews, it is quite different from Civ3 and not just a step forward. This might avoid making Civ3 obsolete but switching back and forth might annoy a few.
Besides, some games are already running and Civ4 might not be stable and complete or full of scenarios in the near future.
Computer power might be an issue as well.

All these conflincting reasons might cause you to choose one of the above options.

A similar thread was created in the SG sub-forum but as it concerns us here too, I thought it might interesting to ask the same question here.

I chose the 'Will play both until Civ4 is stable' option, but I'm not really sure. I'll do my bit to finish the PBEMs I'm in no matter what off course. After that it depends on how much I enjoy multiplayer/pbem in cIV, if it delivers what it promises I'll probably not join any new Civ III pbems.

Good question. Probably the same as when civ 3 arrived readjust my strategy, I had some good moves that suddenly didn't work anymore.
I approach Civ 4 with a similar trepidation, what wonderfully effective strategies will suddenly become useless and what will I have to do to replace them.
Yea I'm sure itr's going to be a case of completing the ongoing pbem's with an eye on getting the edge on the new version in future games :)

I'm not really signing up for more PBEM games, and will probably let them finish or die out (I'll play my turns as before, of course), but I'll probably be more concerned with Civ 4. BTW, i have it pre-ordered, but it won't be in in Canada until November 16...

Dunno yet.
Will continue to play C3C and PTW pbem games and watch with interest the effect Civ IV has, as I will need a new computer before I get it.

If I knew what I know now I would not have bought Civ III, I'd have waited for Conquests.

So I'm thinking of doing that in Civ IV, so I won't get it right in the beginning. I'll be checking the CFC forums for comments on it, but I'll wait a while till I get it.

As a consequence I'll keep PBEMing in Civ III for a while. Until, as you say, 'until Civ4 is stable'.
.

Well, I do not really know.

I figure I will get Civ4 for Christmas (I would get it myself but at some point the kids need a gift for Dad)

I just hope they do not screw up any pbems like that #@$%$ beta patch did to one of mine.

I've participated in the beta testing and have purchased already. The game is substantially changed (I think for the better - especially for builders).

I will play out my existing CIV3 games but will not start new CIV3 PBEM games.

I will complete my pbems.

As I have never played Conquests, except through pbems (and these are all a long way from finishing), I'll probably continue with this.

I'll probably do more ptw & conquests, if there's anyone left to pbem with.

Don't know ... I will definitely finish current games and probably take on a few mod pbem ... fantasy and fallout maybe ...

Also involved in a team pbem which is heaps of fun (see Demogame VII link in signature)

So I will not be totally abandoning Civ3 yet ...

Trust me, there will be players for Civ III PBEM's. Have a look at all the games that have started recently. There will still be a lot of interest for some time to come in a lot of the scenarios that have been built.

I know of at least 3 people, 2 of them scenario designers, who are in wait and see mode with Civ IV regarding playability, patches, etc., so they will be hanging around in Civ III for some time,as will I.

I am in a great 8 man PBEM right now that is just starting to get interesting.
