I'd imagine most would simply aim for their political utopia, unless they were a savvy politician and merely went where the wind blew.
-Social liberalism is in vogue, baby. You can consent to sex at 16 nationwide, you can buy porn at 16, prostitution is legal everywhere, gambling is legalised, all drugs are legal or decriminalised, the list goes on. Right to vote also granted to all ages 16 and above - they can hold jobs, drive a car, and consent to sex yet not vote under the current system. What a load of garbage. Gay rights also legalised; religion is forced behind the wall of separation. It's a wall, not a one-way door.
-Economic policy is reformed. Taxes are raised on the wealthy via inheritance, with a negative income tax replacing much of the current tax and welfare system. Universal insurance established, with Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security finally buried, replaced by mandatory savings. With the NIT, the poorest Americans can prosper, with spare cash going towards building a brighter, wealthier future for them and for society as a whole. Domestically, the government funds renewable energy and high speed rail projects, as well as vertical farming.
-Foreign policy is revamped. The nuclear arsenal will be slashed, and the military cut in favor of more spending on overseas investments. States that nationalise investments are permanently blacklisted until they return the seized assets and will also risk being strangled in trade terms. Particular projects include expanding the Panama Canal, and developing the resources of Mexico.
A very expensive, revolutionary Presidency. Which is why I'd never get elected. Ah well.
