Have you tried this with strategic view? I'm wondering what it would be like for you at say turn 1000 when you are only playing in strategic view, because poster claims have said it's a matter of a few seconds regardless of map sizes. I find that dubious but more than one person has said it.

Why would I want to play CiV in strategic view? Be like going to a beauty pagaent where the swimsuit bikinis are replaced by plain hospital gowns (knee-length). If I want to play a bland looking board game, I'll buy one in a box. <shakes head>

The strategic view is where you look at the whole map instead of focusing on a few units isn't it? (I can see how to toggle but not where it tells me which view I have).

Anyway, I play on nothing except the whole map view.

Personally, I find beautiful 2D graphics to be more likable than bland 3D ones.
So I honestly prefer Strategic View not just because it's cleaner and more easily informative, but also because I actually find it prettier.
I honestly don't see a reason to not play in Strategic View, personally. The much quickier turn wait timer is just a bonus.

Strategic View Mode is bi-dimensional with board-game-style tiles, and units represented by their icons only.

Amen. I like your allegory :D

Graphics don't make strategy games.

If civ V can't hold up under strategic view only, the devs probably should focus on their core element more closely ;).

I'm not the only one who plays the game this way.

To each their own. I've never been particularly one for flat markers on a board, however colorful, in my PC graphics preferences. I used to reference it once in a while early on, before I learned to read the 3D version's visual cues and symbolset at a glance like the back of my hand.

I can read both, but one makes me spend an hour longer than the other, or more.
