What's the best game ever made? Except civilization?

I'm pretty sure there is no such thing as "best game ever".

But I really like these:
- Alpha Centauri
- Master of Magic
- Master of Orion I and II
- Colonization
- Doom II
 
You have to give a serious tip of the hat to Moo. After nearly 15 years it is still being played by new players and being used for SG's. That is quite some staying power.
 
Starcraft and Starcraft Brood war
Classic, and most addictive game I evah came apon (More addictive once u get on Bnet)

OT: It's utterly impossible to narrow it down to one for me.

A few off the top of my head:
RTS: Z, Dungeon Keeper 1, Pirates! Gold
TBS: Heroes of Might and Magic 2, Master of Orion 2, XCom
Adventure: Monkey Island 1&2, Space Quest, Indiana Jones 4
RPG: Baldur's Gate 2, Planescape Torment, Secret of Mana, Albion,...
FPS: Quake 2
Simulation: Archimedean Dynasty(Schleichfahrt)
Sports: Fifa 98
Platformer: Commander Keen 1
Arcade: Atomic Bomberman, Worms
...
 
I completely forgot about Commander Keen! Though IV was my favourite, as it was one of the games that came with my Amstrad so I played it the most, along with Prince of Persia.
 
Bridge with a deck of cards. It's cheap, easy and portable.
Unreal Tournament was good.
Populous, Colonization and James Pond were all good.
But my favourite game is SWIV.
 
Skies of Arcadia, the one game that has everything good about life. Pirates, booty, and giant weapons of mass destruction hellbent on crushing your small sloop and everything around it.

Also worthy enough to make the list is Paper Mario, and Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask.
 
Shadowrun, Super Nintendo. The best game I have ever played, and the most fun.

HM: Zelda 3 and Diablo 2.

I loved and played Zelda and Super Mario 2

The Delphinus was no mere sloop, my boy, but the finest flying battleship ever crafted by the hand of Valuan engineers. A joy to fly!

I'm surprised you didn't mention your namesake either :D
 
I had to think about this for a while. It has to be a game with a story that really captures me and forces me to get to the ending. Has to be a game that brings me back constantly, and that i can start over and over again. I'm pretty sure the game that ive played the most, and enjoyed the most and gives me the best memories is Zelda: A Link to the past

And Kan: Outcast? That game was awful! I'm disappointed in you :(
 
The best game I have ever played besides Civilization would have to be Far Cry. I love that game. I've played it five times.

Action- Super smash bros. melee
Simulation- Rollercoaster Tycoon
Strategy- Civilisation IV (sorry), or Alpha Centauri
Sport- None
RPG- Neverwinter Nights
